As i stated i have a 1.33ghz Birdy, right now it's clocked at 1400 at 140 bus(drrr:confused;)on a KT7 Turbo. Now, i just upgraded my HSF from a OCZ Monster 2 to a ALPHA 6035 with a Delta on it. WOW!!, big difference in temp. I used to be running up in the 58C to 60C area on hot days OCUH!(which is why i got the Alpha), even when it wasent overclocked, BUT!, i need to know just how hot is too hot for the thing?. I'v been hearing ALOT of differnt temps, most of which are better than mine, just my luck right?:p. It seems that it's best to keep the thing under 50C but i cant really get that temp(no AC2) so i need to know just how high is too high. THANKS GUY'S!, your always a big help :Q

It depends really. There's too many variables to compare numbers from one to another. Don't worry if other people's temp are lower than yours. Stability is all you have to worry about. That's pretty much the bottom line.:)

Ambient temperature is a big factor in CPU/mobo temp. My 1.33GHz @ 1.4 usually stays at 42~43 during normal use. After few hours of UT, it goes up to 46~48.

I currently use vantec FCE-6254 HSF and used Asus' PCProbe to get the temp.

On a sidenote, I got a Thermaltake's Copper Orb from ebay for $10 just out of curiosity. Sure enough, it sucks asss and then some. My CPU running at 1.33GHz (no OC) was reading 52~54 during normal use and 57~58 after few hours of UT.

The Copper Orb's only benefit is that it is very quiet compared to the Vantec.

Well, it's not really that your mobo readings are wrong, but more inaccurate.

How's your case cooling? Do you have any intake and exhaust fans? Do you have any thermal pad or paste between the CPU core and the heat sink? You definately need something. Arctic Silver II would be best, but if you can't get it, then use something.

Doesn't sound like your temps are dangerously high, but I think you should be able to get them down some.

How much temp diff if we use Arctic Silver II compare to thermal pad? Mine is running hot too, and I 'd like to know if it is worth to use Arctic Silver II . Thanks

Yeah, i secound zzgreeneagle. Is AS2 really going to do that much?, i have regular white silicon stuff on mine. I do not have propor case cooling as my Antec SX1030 hasent arrived yet, the case i have now has no intake or outtakes. The side is open and i have three fans altogether moving air around in the case. It's been kinna hot lately and i think thats why it's heating up, once i get my new case i'll post temps.

Any paste is better than a pad. Arctic silver is the best and could possibly give you another couple of degrees over regular paste. According to AMDs website the maximum temp on a thunderbird is 95c. Wow thats hot! http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon/techdocs/pdf/24685.pdf
Personally I would make sure it never went over 70 but 50 is probably safe.
Room temp has alot to do with the temp of your cpu. You cannot air cool to cooler than the room and the closer to 50c it is in the room the more difficult it will be to get below 50c.
There is a software program which can also help you out called CPUcool. You can download it at ZDnet.com. You have to fool with the program a bit and Athalon forced cooling shoud be checked but it dropped my idle temp by 10c. I only have a duron but I am overclocked by 350Mhz.

i have mine 1ghz@1.33 at 40-42c after runnig 3dmark2001 for few times it is at 48-50c

i think 58-60c is hot, my cpu will freeze at 62c.
i say below 55c is good
