New motherboards? Where on earth did that comment come from? That would be extremely retarded, on AMD's part..

Unless it's a 266MHz FSB part, but I wonder if that would really mean it would require a new board?

All AMD chips have a 12.5x multiplier limit.

To get 1.33Ghz, it would require 133Mhz FSB * 10.

Somehow, i don't quite believe todays KT133 chipset MBs can do it. Anyone have more info?

it will probably be the first AMD Athlon (with T-Bird core) chip to use the 133mhz fsb. in fact, that's not a probability, it's a very very strong likelyhood!

but, 133mhz fsb, to me, isn't enough.. we need 200mhz man!

Maybe its actually a 1300mhz proc with just a little extra on the end, you know, like the P3 1.13 ghz proc..

The 1.33Ghz Athlon will be intended to run an a 266Mhz FSB (133Mhz Double-Data Rate). It will be released to coincide with the AMD760 DDR chipset. So yes, it kind of will need a new mobo. However, you can always unlock the chip and run it at whatever speed you want.

However, the 1.33Ghz chip will probably not be the first chip released for the 266Mhz bus. AMD will probably release the AMD760 along with a 1, 1.13 and 1.2Ghz Athlons all multiplier locked for a 266Mhz FSB. I am expecting Comdex time frame for this release.

They will then quickly follow up with the 1.33Ghz chip.

These will all be TBird based chips. We will not see Mustang until next year.

Your right - The Mustang itself is indeed a server/workstation chip.

I should of been more clear and stated the new chips will not be based on the Mustang core. AMD will eventually be releasing three chips, all based on the Mustang core. One is currently being called the Mustang (aimed at servers), and the others will replace the current TBird Athlon and Duron. (code names Palomino and Morgan)

We will not be seeing any chips based on the Mustang core until next year.
