arrrrgh. ok i just changed computers, and i attached my old hard drive to this new one. the old one is a 60gb wd drive that has been partitioned into 3 parts. E, F, G... my computer is set up as my 10gb drive = C (main drive), my DVD drive = D, and my 60gb drive = E F G.

so i just realized that my E partition (on the 60gb drive) is no longer being recognized as formatted by windows. the E, F, and G drives are all under "my computer," but when I try accessing my E partition (the one with all my important files, personal pictures, emails, etc.) it gives me some crap about how "The disk in drive E is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"

of course, I say no. there has to be some kind of way to get the files off of it or fix the partition, right? i haven't done anything to it. since i'm inbetween computers, my hard drives are outside my case just dangling there, is that part of the problem?

I really dont know what to do. someone recommended Forensic Utility Suite, which I am going to try out, but is there any way to get my files back? they're really important to me. :( :(

if you have some know how on something like this, please IM or email me. i can call you if it will help make things easier or faster. i really really need to get my files back. :(

Did you using any Drive Overlay software on the old drive, such as those from Maxtor or WD?

so,, you are running on NTFS now, and trying to access the Fat32 drive? well, i believe that is your problem, if i can remember correctly, you cant run on one type and access another type because they arent compatible. so, if you wanted to access the files off the fat32 drive, you would either have to boot from it or boot from some other fat32 drive...unless there is a program that will let you do it...

You can access fat32 from NTFS just not the other way around, did you move the jumper when you swapped the drive, ie. is the drive set to slave?

yes 2/3 of the partitions on the drive are useable. it is just the first partition that is "not formatted" or some BS windows gives. i used a utility on it and it recognized the files and would be able to pull them off if it werent shareware :(

the jumpers are set correctly.
