What 99 cent store has those cables for a buck? I'm in Kansas City and not sure where to look. I can find places online that sell the usb cables really cheap, but as for the hotsync cables, they're anywhere from $8-$20.

I live in Miami, but could not find the Hot synch cable in the $0.99 or $1.00 stores. They don't have it. Radioshack has it but price is $19.00...

Some find the place has it cheap....

My local RadioShack had it for $6.97 (item number 25-983). It's a discontinued item so it will be hard to find but 70% of the RadioShacks in my district had at least one of them as of last week.

Thanks man, I got it. I ask the guy @ RadioShack scan the item# you gave, the only one left not on the shelf but somewhere else. I connected the camera with only USB cable before, but just want to make it look nice. The Hot sync cable I got is PDA Palm m100/m105. I just sanded the cover out little bit. Iit fits perfectly. Well the my cable is differnt from this link. I could pull out some pictures from the camera. I would said the camera is not so good or too bad. Out door pictures under the shade neither indoor pictures with little light look bad. So far, ~$18.00-$19.00 is worth to try.

BTW. There a new version of software and driverwhich works under Win XP without problem. Try it..

MY local Wolf has about 7 of these. I'm going to buy 3 or 4 of them and give them as Christmas presents. Hopefully I can find the cables and make 3 or 4 and give them with the cameras, so it doesn't look like just a cheap $10 camera, lol. If anyone else is interested let me know. I'm off at school about an hour away, but I'm going to have my sister or girlfriend pick them up for me hopefully tomorrow. Email is Mrbway@sbcglobal.net AIM is MrSnoop289 if you want to contact me.

I know this is a long shot, but is there a way to add zoom features and another flash memory compartment? I guess with the money that would be involved in such a task, one would wonder why not just get a full-fledged digicam. But I dunno.

a real zoom would involve a more complicated lens assembly, and that just ain't gonna happen for cheap. I'm no electrical/comp E, so i'm not sure about the memory slot issue, but I have a feeling it ain't gonna be trivial.

So in other words, be happy with you 11 dollar camera!! :)

Well i shouldn't talk. I drilled a hole in the right side of the camera case an installed a Wrist strap :) And if there was a way to further ghetto-mod this thing, I'm gonna be first in line to do it

cool cool. Thanks Apache for the bit about the lens focus adjusting wheel. Really good stuff. BTW, where would I find the piece of plastic that would be used as a wheel and how did you manage to make a clean hole in the case where the wheel goes through?

Not too hot IMHO. I can imagine a few ideas for how you might use these (someone mentioned a party), but given how crappy the whole thing is, why bother otherwise.

The hacking part is the fun part.

this thing looks neat. I'd prolly get this cause I can throw 11 bucks at it, but not sure what or who to give it to. I have a canon digital that blows this away, but I think my parents could use it or so. Problem is, the usb I can deal with fixing, but what about like.. the batteries? I wouldnt want them to have to crack the case everytime they wanted to recharge them.

the batteries have a slot you can open to change them.... very simple, no screwdrive required

The plastic I used is sheet styrene. You can probably find it at hobby shops or a plastic supply store. But the material isn't important, just use anything you find like razor2025 like a old floppy disk, or bottle cap or whatever.

As I said on my webpage, I used a dremel to cut the slot in the camera case. And cleaned it up carefully with an Xacto knife.

And about battery life. I've taken about 300 pictures with a single set of 2000mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries. And they're still going strong!

Ok I have what may be a stupid question but I am going to ask anyways...

On http://www.cexx.org/dakota/ it shows the pinouts as:

Pin 10: Ground (Black)
Pin 9: Data - (White)
Pin 8: Data + (Green)
Pin 6: +5V (Red)

My question is... Does it matter if Pins 9 and 8 are switched? Being that they are Data + and - I was not sure.
The reason I ask is I picked up a Belkin Visor USB to Automobile charger at the 99cent store. The part that goes into the cig lighter has a female USB that I desoldered, removed and was going to solder onto the camera (I figured this would be the easiest way to connect the camera on the fly). The pins on the Female USB would line up for the Pins 10, 9 and 8. I would just have to make a jumper for Pin 6. But when I cut open a USB cable mine were colored Black,Green,White and Red. Not Black, White,Green and Red. I figured this would not matter but just wanted to make sure before I solder it all together. I did some searches but could not find any info. TIA. Any info is appreciated.

just follow the colors, don't worry about the ORDER of the colors. Don't swap pin 8 and 9!

And you can use pin 7 instead of pin 10 so you can line up all the pins. Both are ground.

Took a little bit of work but I got it working. Got the $7 Palm m100 cable, opened it up and soldered pin 1's wire to pin 9, hooked it up to a usb cable I cut up and then plugged it into a notebook. The usb port on the notebook apparently is a little flaky so it cause me no end of headaches till I figured that out. Once I got that figured out it's been uploading just fine. The quality is awful but for about $23 with tax for all the parts, I'm not complaining. It'll make a nice extra gift for my in-laws.

I just got back from the 99 cent only store only to find the Palm V series hot sync cables. Is there a way to use this one as well? Thanks.

I seriously doubt the Palm V cable would work, it's a very different style.
Check Radio Shack. It's not $1 but $7 isn't too bad for the M100/105 cable.

unfortunately, I checked my local Radioshacks only to find that the Palm V cables were the only ones available there as well. Any help in finding the right ones for <$10 would be much appreciated
