$1.29 25GB Usenet Block from thecubenet

$5.16 for 4 x 25 gig blocks. One thing that people might want to know: this creates a separate username and password for each 25 GB block, so you don't exactly get a 100 GB block.

How does thecubenet compare with other usenet providers, and where is it based? Some of the US providers have come under increasing assault by DMCA use, while overseas ones have more leeway. Things that are constantly nuked on US usenet providers are still available on my european one.

This is a good deal as a fill server.

the cube uses astra. you have a choice of US or EU servers, but I haven't had much luck with either. Anything popular usually has 1-3 par blocks missing

I have Astra's 1tb for $50 which is a bit cheaper and you can use the same username for the duration

They seem to be pretty good customer service wise. The code had stopped working earlier in the day before it got posted here and they reactivated it. They also will merge your accounts together into 1 user name. Just send a support ticket with the user name that you want to keep.

What good is Usenet these days?

Movies, music, games, porn, ebooks, live concerts, etc. The exact same stuff you can get over bit torrent. But faster and easier to get.

usenet still beats anything to day in ease of getting files. It has millions of users, i use it everyday.

However this is a terrible deal.

easynews for $14 get unlimited a month. I downloaded 25gigs just in one day 😛

It's a good deal for a 25 gb block to use as a backup for when your provider is missing files from a download. It doesn't expire either.

Easynews for $14? You can get Supernews feeding off Giganews or Newsdemon feeding off Highwinds for $10/mo with the right links and these services are far superior to Easynews. Completion was a big problem when I used Easynews servers. I feed off Highwinds for $6.50/mo with Thundernews but, that was a Black Friday special. I pulled about 78 Gigs in a day a few years ago on a 10Mb line.

Usenet still has active discussion groups.

It DOES have a LOT of malware and virus infected stuff. Retention is up to about 5 years and growing. People toss junk up in the binary files and it stays, good place to check for odd stuff.

Practical use requires two usenet accounts from different source feeds, a main and a fill, a newsgroup reader like newsbin pro, and a search engine like what you get with newsbin pro for a year free. Cost is fairly trivial for access provided. Blocks usually have no time limit.

Work on a safe machine, scan EVERYTHING twice, like avast and malwarebytes, be prepared to format and restore if you see the slightest twitch.

Never had a issue with easynews.
