1.2 T-Bird running at 75c

According to Motherboard Monitor, when I am running IE and Winamp, my CPU temp ranges from 35-42. When I run Quake3 or Half-Life it skyrockets to 75 Celsius. I don't know why. According to some people I have talked to, at 75 my cpu should be giving out, yet I have been running this setup for 7 months with little problems. I have a 3dcool.com tornado 1000, an abit kt7 RAID with a 1.2 T-Bird and a Coolermaster HSF. Any ideas?

The coolermaster HSF is the culprit. Its not capable of removing heat fast enough. when idle, it catches up so temps go down. You can try to reseat it just to make sure its installed properly. If temps are still the same, then its time to get a better HS/F.

just get a new HSF...those high temps are a lil too high for comfort...

Is your HSF sitting flat on your CPU? Couple of things could be causing this: (1) The HSF is on backwards. (2) Your HSF is scooted towards the part of your socket with no holes in it.
Some HSF's don't have the beveled area made large enough and when you put them on, before clipping the the second clip of the HSF, if you pull the HSF away from the part of the socket with no pin holes you can feel it drop onto the core.

U definately need a new HSF for tht 70C CPU !!! And u need it fast as well.

Turbo your existing cpu fan..Add a second fan on top of the existing 1..u might have to add spacers to seperate the blades.

Your Graphics gpu and memory might also radiate excessive heat while playing games..so get an extractor fan too..its like a oven in there!

I take my 1200C up to 1507 on a 60x80 Coolermaster HS and the highest cpu temp ive seen is 52C.

I'd guess that ur gonna get a lot of votes for the SK-6, OCZ Gladiator (a.k.a. SVC Golden Gate), or the Taisol CKG760. They're all great choices. The SK-6 performs the best but is a little more expensive than the other 2. The Taisol is quiet and does the job well if noise is a priority and the SVC Golden Gate cools slightly less than the SK-6 but is really cheap.
