1.1GHz Athlon only running at 850..

So, I got my brand new 1.1G Athlon in the mail a couple days ago.. installed it in my Abit KT7A mobo, and.. I boot to see that it's only recognized as a Athlon 850. I check the bios.. turns out it only lists up to 1000mhz.. so I grab a recent BIOS update.. update the BIOS.. reboot.. still 850, go into the BIOS + select 1100mhz.. save/reboot.. still no luck.

I'm thinking that my computer might be a bit confused.. I DID get the Athlon with a 266Mhz FSB.. would this be causing a problem at all?..

A note, SiSoft Sandra seems to be telling me that the FSB is only running at 200mhz.. would this affect it at all?

*i'm quite hard-ware stupid.. so.. treat me kindly.. 😉*

Yup, you need to set the fsb to 133mhz. It currently is set to 100.

Yeah, you need to get your FSB running at 133MHz. THe clockspeed of your processor comes from this...

Multiplier * FSB = Clock Speed

RIght now, you have

8.5 * 100 = 850

If you up the FSB to 133, you will get

8.5 * 133 = 1130 (1.1GHz)

Right, so.. I tried that.. and now the computer didn't even post. (would the fact that this is a 266-fsb proc have anything to do with this.. did i screw myself over here?)

Is your memory rated to 133 MHZ or PC2100 DDR? If not, then the memory might not be able to hit that speed ( 133 ) so your system does not post.

As someone else suggested- make sure you are using PC133 memory. After ensuring you have PC133 continue on here:

I would select user define to set up the CPU. Enter your multiplier as 8.5 and the FSB as 133. These directions are in the manual, but you should be able to figure them out in the bios. Make sure your RAM is only set for Host- NOT HOST+PCICLK. If FSB is 133, and you select HOST+PCICLK, you are trying to run your memory at 166mhz. Other than that, I'm not sure what to recommend. Maybe just boost the VCore +0.05V and the I/O +0.1V (you'll have to set voltages to user define also). Feel free to PM me- I have used KT7-Raid's, KT7A's and currently a KR7A-Raid133. I can figure out most of the issues you might be having with it.

Why don't you try using WCPUID and see how it's really running.
My Celeron 1.2 Tualatin shows correctly under WCPUID, but
on bootup the MB says I've got a 350 PIII.......Geeze.....
