TIJUANA, Mexico A crowd of about 1,000 Haitians shouted and shoved at the door of Mexico’s immigration agency at the U.S. border, which has found itself an unhappy gateway for thousands of would-be migrants in recent months hoping to cross into the United States.

They wrapped their arms around the waists of people in front of them to prevent anyone from cutting in line in their desperation for one of just a few dozen slots granted daily with U.S. immigration authorities about a half-mile away.

Several thousand Haitians have traveled to Tijuana in recent months, overflowing migrant shelters and often sleeping outside next to their backpacks on sheets of cardboard, many after traveling 7,000 miles by foot, taxi and bus from Brazil through eight nations to the threshold of the United States. There have been so many that in August, Mexican authorities imposed a system of appointments in order to keep the Haitians away from the flow of other visitors at one of the world’s busiest border crossings.

Most of the Haitians appear unaware that the trip, and the desperate scramble at the border, has been in vain.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Sept. 21 began putting Haitians in detention facilities before attempting to send them back to the homeland they fled, a departure from previous practice of freeing them on humanitarian parole. The U.S. softened its posture after Haiti’s 2010 earthquake but now treats them like people from other countries.

Many of the Haitians continuing to arrive in Tijuana have said they were unaware of the change, while those who knew about it said turning back was not an option. Brazil opened its doors to the Haitians after the earthquake devastated their impoverished country, but the South American country later developed its own economic problems, recently prompting many to seek work in the United States.

Antonio Juneiro, 40, is typical. He lived in Sao Paolo for four years until factory work dried up and he decided to join family in Miami. After spending $4,000 to reach Tijuana, the prospect of a job in the United States was worth the risk of getting deported to Haiti.

Hillary has already said that she will throw the doors wide open to all immigrants from Syria, etc. (a la Angela Merkel). There should be no doubt we will soon be flooded with wave upon wave of millions of world wide migrants if she does.

The problems with mass migration are many and are causing all sorts of problems in Europe. I think we have enough problems already and bad immigration policy made worse with a completely open borders should not be one of them.

Let them in temporarily. Let them see the potential of their own homeland and then let them go back and rebuild and rebuild a nation of empowered citizens grateful of the US's hospitality.

Or keep them out and let them become another nation of citizens who will be mobilized by radicals who use nationalism and scapegoating to radicalize more people who have no problem threatening the US's prosperity and security.

Unfortunately that view is simplistic, naive and dangerous to our fiscal health (as bad as it is already). A lot of them are unable to find work and rely on government assistance for years. Haitians have also not been known to be radicalized.

Building an effective wall between legal, vetted immigrants and those who come here willy nilly is a brilliant solution but will never be on Hillary's agenda.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-u-s-should-take-65000-syrian-refugees/

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sunday that the United States should accept 65,000 refugees from Syria to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis created by the war there.

“You just have to sort of figure out how to — getting back to that word, ‘balance’ — how to balance the public and the private efforts that are necessary to be successful, politically, and that’s not just a comment about today,” Clinton said in a speech for the National Multi-Housing Council on April 23, 2013. “It is unsavory, and it always has been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be. But if everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least. So, you need both a public and a private position.”

"My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere," Clinton told Banco Itau, a Brazilian bank, on May 16, 2013.

- from Wikileaks email of Hillary's support of open borders

This should not surprise you in the least. She is a socialist and globalist and free, unchecked immigration has always been their policy.

Can you name a period in our history when an influx of immigrants, legal or not, was bad for our country?

Just because a people are not historically known to be radicalized doesn't mean they can't be nor does it mean they won't harbor those that are.

Deny it all you like, in the meantime we shall build a wall. The American people are fed up with things as they are and mass immigration will make it worse.

If the statement is true than you can post a link to statement made by Clinton to that effect. You haven't done so.

You know the statement is true. She has already said in the statement above she has public and private opinions and she tries to find a balance. If elected she will START with 65,000 Syrian refugees and end with millions and millions of immigrants, illegal or otherwise from all over Earth.

Victorian Gray will respond "but, but, dude....I want a link from a source I trust to her admitting that she wants more than simply 65,000 immigrants. And Im going to keep repeating myself because, because I know you are right and all I have is distraction."

I will not respond to that kind of reply again because its just a circle to quibble on to derail the truth of Hilarys desire for a borderless America.

Really? How big is it going to be? Who are you hiring to do it, or is this a personal project of yours? Regarding the American people being fed up, I'm American and I'm not fed up with anything except people who would deny assistance to those in need. Especially since this is a nation of immigrants, like yourself or your descendants.

You can't speak for everyone so speak for yourself.

It just like Hillarys plan to do away with the Second Amendment. Do you really think she is going to come out with her plan to limit gun ownership or to confiscate weapons PRIOR to the election? Bill Clinton passed the first Assault Weapons Ban which banned all sorts of things beyond "assualt weapons" including limiting hand gun and rifle magazines to no more than eight rounds. She supported that. Please find your own link, but I was affected by this ban in 1994 and know all about it.

Hillary will also appoint Supreme Court nominees which further her gun control agenda.

She doesnt need to be that blunt or obvious but she is easy to figure out.

Vishnu forbid the richest country on Earth with more than 250,000,000 people in it take in < 50,000 people who are now without a home, even temporarily. Maybe you guys have terrible politicians because you're terrible people.

Code Brown! We got a code brown here people! ;)

For me, I'd like the US to be the beacon of hope I always thought it was as a kid. So I'm all for aggressive humanitarian support including some form of immigration.

Even Vishnu would blush at all the countries whose main export is excess population. Countries whose uncontrolled growth has led to poverty, crime and lack of resources, even a pot to piss in.

We have long passed 300MM people in America of which 11MM are illegals (PEW source), people with expired visas milling about in sanctuary cities, etc. But hey, if you want to drop by and shame us into having the next European immigrant crisis go right ahead.

It wont work.

Brown people helped make this country great, and I too agree we should be a beacon of hope. So Im all for controlled, vetted immigration in supportable numbers. Im also for humanitarian aid to freshly deported people and for those who had the better sense to stay home.
