1.0 GHz Duron $40 shipped @ newegg.

Deal is basically the free shipping. I purchased the Retail version the other day for $50 + S&H so this makes me jealous. Oh well, I get a 3yr warranty--whoopee.

Time to upgrade my 486sx !
Will the Duron chip fit in my intel math co-processor socket?
The Packard Bell manual says it's upgradable to future technology...

This chip is an OEM not a Retail box, so no fan or heatsink. What happened to Newegg free shipping on retail durons? It just changed to 6.95.

Hmm, I just got my Duron 1G retail box from NewEgg last Friday, for $52 shipped. This is a better deal, since you get to pick a heatsink/fan to your liking and not settling on the AMD one.

LMAO 😀

btw: nice hammer, like the name too~!

I know most of us like NewEgg (myself included), but I hate how sometimes it will lower the price of an item by a few bucks, but bump up the shipping from "free" to $6.95. I've seen this over the past weeks with the CPUs. Also, what's with some of the refurb CPUs costing MORE than non-refurbs on Pricewatch? I hope NewEgg is not going rotten . . .

BTW: I'm in Tampa tomorrow--very tempted to stop by TCWO and picking those cheap XPs.

TCWO is in Tampa??? I didnt know that... Might have to take a short 2 hours drive south to check that out 😀

Tempting, tempting, this is really tempting.

I've been looking for an excuse.......errrrrr, good reason to build another machine. Hey, don't have one running in the garage yet. It could be my car maintenance tracking machine. Yeah, yeah.....

OK, find me a great deal on an Enermax PS and we'll call it a deal!

🙂

I can highly recommend the Volcano II heatsink/fan at Newegg for $5.50. This is good enough even if you overclock your Duron to the 1.3 GHz level, and it runs nice and quiet.

I'm in. Newegg deal posts are usually monotonous, but I thank you for this one.

For those who haven't seen recent Duron threads: The 1.0 GHz and above Durons have the "XP" type core. They may, or may not work on your socket A motherboard. This one is going into an Iwill KK266+; I figure a gigahertz and a gig of SDRAM will hold me for a while.

Well, I took the dive and bought two. Been planning to do a dual-AMD rig and this is the perfect way to get in...

Anyone wanna buy a 1.2GHz Thunderbird that will o/c to 1450 with air cooling?

JPS,

What board do you plan to put these chips in? Tyan Tiger MP? Do you know that they will work? Thanks.

I will go with the Tiger MP - whcih we know works (search here, at Hard|OCP, and 2CPU if you need validation) - and possibly the IWILL board if that becomes as good as expected.

Is there a way of knowing for sure if this CPU will work with a certain board? I have a work machine with an older Gigabyte GA-71XE4 board. I think it's an AMD chipset and is a 200 mhz.

Also.. My question still stands. Will I notice a difference between a 750 Duron and a 1 gb Duron (not oc'd).

Thanks again.

Sal

The board you mention is probably not going to work with anything over a K6 500 or so. The Duron and Athlon designs are pretty much too different for it to work.

Yup, 250mhz faster and the improved core from its older brother, the XP, make any sub-gig durons a poor choice for price/performance.

Thanks for the quick reply.
