I have been trying to install Win2k and XP on my Sony Vaio Z505SX for the past couple of days. I can get throught most of the text install portion but when it gets ready to format the hdd and install I always get the stop error. Looking in MS's knowledgebase I found that it has something to do with not being able to read the hdd properly or some driver incompatibility. The hard drive itself is fine and is formated to a win98 C prompt and has been scandisked, re Fdisked, reformated and scaned again.
Any idea what I need to do to get either OS installed?

i had no problem on my old z505. Only problem i did find however was it did hang on one part of the install after the format. It took about 15min to continue to the rest of the install. an solution could be, make a win98 boot up disk, format the drive manually, and then when u install windows have it leave the drive and not format it.

The drive is already formatted and will boot to a win98 C promt with no problems. Its just when installing Win2k. And it doesnt even get to ask me if i want to format or anything else it just halts with the error and requires rebooting. Sony's knowledgebase is useless and only details installing win2k with 98 already installed.
