Probably the CAB1E 0550 UPMW/VPMW steppings. Supposedly, the CCBWE 0551's aren't too bad. Getting 2.6 @ 1.4v sounds decent to me. After all, it's FX-60 speeds for $300.

270$ :)

Even better. Now can someone please convince me to stop being lazy and put mine in? :p

I just got the same CCBWE 0551 UPMW and will try it tonight so we'll see. :)

****** still can hit 2.7
keeps freezing and failing prime. Funny as i can run 2.6 at 1.4vcore 25 hours stable on prime but cant even touch 2.7

Since then, I find myself not happy with anything less than 2.8GHz. But only 6 months ago 2.6GHz with a venice was a very decent OC. Think about it. We buy a 1.8GHz/2.0GHz CPUs and expect them to OC like 1000MHz. I just feel weird at how situation has changed even though I had been a strict Intel user just a year ago (didn't want to give up the HyperThreading).

Now on topic :D : I found that with Opterons (probably A64 in general) memory size/speed has influence on CPU OC. Are your sticks 1GB? I generally achieved 20~50MHz higher OC with 512MB sticks. If you just want to find out the limit of your CPU, I'd suggest trying 512MB sticks, or even ONE 1GB stick, instead of a pair. You might gain slightly higher OC. (Although it's not practical since 2GB memory has its own benefit, but just for the sake of OCing)

EXACTLY, why are so many people dissapointed by their OC results?I think all the bragging from previous extremely great OC's has gone to their head:(

What would be considered safe voltage for a dual core Opteron for a 24/7 OC? I will be on Water Cooling if that changes anything.

0551 UPMW here. I'm at 2.6 with 1.392v, 12 hours dual Prime95 stable :D. I'm content with that - FX-60 speeds with a little bump in voltage so I haven't tried for any higher. But I'll probably end up staying where I am because I like lower voltages and temperatures.

you should be able to hit 2.6 at stock vcore

I could, but in order to be dual Prime95 stable for 12 hours, I had to bump the voltage.

well, it looks like I got up to 2.5 on this chip with the following specs (may stay at this since the vcore and temps are low)

9xmulti
279FSB
3xhtt
166 divider, 2.6v on ram
1.35 vcore

I have a opty165 0551upmw, and I cant even get 2.5ghz at 1.35v. I can boot, but core0 fails prime in like 5 seconds. 1.375v doesnt help either. I'd put more voltage, but I need a better cooler because I'm already hitting ~50C load at 2.4ghz w/ 1.35v using a zalman 7000alcu.

Yeah water cooling changes big time compare to air. On air, I'd say the max vcore for dual-cores is 1.5V. That's on the condition that you have a decent air-cooling setup with good air-flow. With water, it depends on how capable of your setup is, but the general concensus is, I believe, 1.55~1.60V max for dual-cores.
