Try to use 1:1 divider for best performance (but maybe lower clock) and dont go with 1.5v (if u need ur cpu about 4 year)

I've got a CCBWE 0551 UPMW also, but haven't installed it yet. I'm so lazy :p

rather have higher mhz then memory preformance. and 1:1 will crap out on my memory.

With A64s, CPU speed is > memory speed. Don't use 1:1 unless your memory can handle really high FSBs.

well it seems i cant even hit 2.7ghz. keeps freezing and failing at prime even with a 1.475 vcore. but 2.6 at 1.4vcore is doing good.

Slightly off topic: I sometimes think we're all spoiled with this Opteron frenzy. My first Opteron was 148 0546FPBW, which did 3GHz @1.48V. Since then, I find myself not happy with anything less than 2.8GHz. But only 6 months ago 2.6GHz with a venice was a very decent OC. Think about it. We buy a 1.8GHz/2.0GHz CPUs and expect them to OC like 1000MHz. I just feel weird at how situation has changed even though I had been a strict Intel user just a year ago (didn't want to give up the HyperThreading).

Now on topic :D : I found that with Opterons (probably A64 in general) memory size/speed has influence on CPU OC. Are your sticks 1GB? I generally achieved 20~50MHz higher OC with 512MB sticks. If you just want to find out the limit of your CPU, I'd suggest trying 512MB sticks, or even ONE 1GB stick, instead of a pair. You might gain slightly higher OC. (Although it's not practical since 2GB memory has its own benefit, but just for the sake of OCing)

1:1 doesn't do anything with the on-die memory controller.

Probably the CAB1E 0550 UPMW/VPMW steppings. Supposedly, the CCBWE 0551's aren't too bad. Getting 2.6 @ 1.4v sounds decent to me. After all, it's FX-60 speeds for $300.

Best I can do is 2.8 with 1.5V 3Dmark2k1 stable. Will be seeing where I am prime stable now.

I ran into a smiliar wall with my Opty 170 CCBWE 0546 XPMW.

I can run 2.6ghz @ 1.42v prime stable, but after that i hit a wall pretty hard. Took me 1.5v to get it prime stable. 2.8GHZ will boot, play games and run 3dmark @ 1.5v, but Prime fails after about 5 seconds on Core0 and S&M also fails even at 1.55v.

Here's a tip:

Relax the memory timings on your RAM. It took me 1.52v to get Prime stable at 2.7GHZ. AFter relaxing the memory timings I'm now stable at 2.7GHZ 1.47v.

It sounds like a board or memory problem, have you tried lower CPU multies? I'd suggest x7. See if your board has any issue with high HTT. Mine will start giving me problems past 335HTT, and won't boot past 340HTT. Also, try to get rid of memory factor as much as possible. Dividers/timings/lower density modules, etc. I'd try command rate 2T with 133 divider with your RAM. Set the LDT voltage @1.4V, and northbridge @1.7V. It's gotta be the board or the memory. If you're Prime95 stable at 2.6GHz your CPU should be able to boot @2.7GHz.

Also, Opterons are very sensitive to temperatures. Open the room windows and case window and see if it boots. :D

hmm im using a 9x multi and the fsb isnt no wear near going over 1000. its at 900, so that means i dont have to up the LDT FSb right? i raised the the chipset to 1.7 is that safe?? im running thr following

9xmulti
3xhtt
133 divider
1.7chipset
1.425 vcore
300FSB

Here is a list of dual-core Opterons with higher-than-average OC potential.

0530TPMW
0546MPMW
0546XPMW
0547TPMW
0550UPMW
0550VPMW
... and many more.

Even better. Now can someone please convince me to stop being lazy and put mine in? :p

That's probably all your gonna get out of it for now. Unless you install faster RAM, you probably aren't going to squeeze any more out of it.
