working on a 05 dodge neon 2.0 sohc.
Problem: sitting in gear with e-brake on or foot on brake pedal doesn't matter, eng. will drop to 600 rpm. take it out of gear and put back in gear rpm stays up, use foot throttle to roll up 20feet and problem starts over. I did find that it will never do this in reverse and the rpm in reverse at idle is 800 to 830 and in drive 700 to 727 it should be the same?

Does it do it after the engine warms up? Any vacuum leaks?
When the idle drops to 600 does the engine try to stall?

i think idle engine speed should be 726, not 727 so you might want to stop driving it before you blow yourself up.

seriously, based on the info given, please take it to a shop and get a professional diagnosis.

My moms 02 neon does the same thing, sometimes it sounds like it is going to die. So far I have inspected everything I can think of and can not figure out what is wrong. Even my buddy who is an automotive engineer cannot figure it out.

So, it sounds like nothing is wrong with the vehicle...
The idle always drops when the car is in D on vehicles.
Are there any codes? Does the car feel like its going to stall?
