Sorry about the 2.5 lol but chances are with 100k any engine work that needed to be done was done.

My dad has an 02 Altima 3.5, and he gets very noticeable 1-2 and 2-3 upshift flare from the auto tranny, which was a common problem too.

I'm going to be looking around 70k and then go from there ;)

I'm open to the 3.5, but the 2.5 is still my first choice because of the gas mileage.

Well, the Altimas I had been looking at got taken off the market and the one left, the dealer does their own financing and won't accept the loan from my credit union.

That leaves me at point zero considering I need to get the car soon. I'm starting to look at some Pontiacs...

Everything else in the market seems to be town cars, Buicks and a lot of Chevy Cavvies/Cobalts.

Saw a decent 05' Scion but I'm not really sold on their cars.

What's the general consensus on Scions tCs? Aren't these things a Corolla on a different body?

The Tc is based off of the European Toyota Avenesis (sp?), in the us it used the same 2.2ltr motor as the Camry.

I've heard of earlier models having issues with seals for the sun roof, and the plastic piece above the license plate coming loose.

They're reliable, being Toyotas, but I'm not sure how much you'd really want one. They do have that cool glass roof but the boy racerish looks and bland powertrain don't do much for me... and being a coupe, it's not that practical either (although the hatchback design does help).

I suppose if you have no need for a back seat and you can find a good deal on one it's not a bad choice. You'll have to try one out to decide.

I think I'm set on an Altima. I've seen some really nice ones for around 6K with/ 100K Miles. 2.5s of course.

Now if I could just find a dark red one :awe:

EDIT: Just did, yay!

WOW,nice looking vehicle, funny your thinking about this model as it has crossed my mind as well to replace a 1.6liter 94 corolla with 252k with also a 2000 maxima with the 3.0 for a 4,500 mile road trip in about a month or so.

Whats attracting you to the 2.5?Power to efficiency ratio? That is what is attracting me but the rear leg room is a turn off.

Both the camry and the accord seem to lack in power versus a good nissan, making the nissan the powerful efficient choice.

Seriously? My wife has this same revision of the Altima, she has the V6 (awesome engine BTW) but there's no difference in legroom, and there's a ton of room in the back. Unless you're planning on sticking 7-foot basketball players back there I doubt you'd have an issue.

The corolla as it is so small for 4 people especially for a long trip,i guess a fear of it happening again is sorta biting me in the rear lol,i believe my statement was reflecting on the models prior to 2003 and i apologize.

Issue here in overpriced California just doing a search for vehicles in the $6,000 range pulls up 150k+ 2003 altimas and half the time i can find the older 3.0 maxima from the year 2000 from $5,500-$6000 with anywhere from 67-115k miles.

Guess the cars move around so much.....and they carry a premium for lower miles like for example a 1.8 liter 2000 corolla in the $5,500-$6,000 range have around 45k-70k miles, while a 2003 corolla would have over 150k in the same price range....if not be salvage half the time.

Yeah, that was the first one I went after. Carfax checked out but when I called the dealer to see if I had to make an appointment, they told me they had sold it the previous day right at closing time :\

the dealer does their own financing and won't accept the loan from my credit union.
DANGER DANGER DANGER

Get me the Joint Chiefs on the line we have confirmed scam launch event, impact 25 minutes.

The only way your dealer is doing this is to f*** you. Your credit union gives him a check, it's a bank check damn near as good as cash. If he won't accept that it's because he wants to molest you with his terms and conditions.

Anyway, Altimas are good vehicles. As mentioned, if you can squeeze into the V6 you'll have a pretty darn fast sedan with an excellent history of reliability. If not, you still have a solid vehicle, one of many Altimas on the road, with no shortage of parts to ever be found.

He was like yeah, "It's a great car, but we do our own financing and won't take checks from Credit Union loans."

I went, "Alright, thanks. Goodbye".

Arrogant little sucker that bastard was over the phone.

Damn shame cause that was a very nice model,i am sure the search will bring you something perhaps even nicer, even tho i think that one was hard to beat and out here in california, that would a bit more money with more marking in the paint.

Maybe a guilt trip has arisen from me but reading consumer reviews on edmunds for a 2005 altima shows for some people the 2.5 models appear to be problematic especially the braking system and brakes.

I have an 07 3.5L Altima, and it's been fairly good to me. The gas mileage is pretty awful though. I regularly get between 18-20 MPG with mostly city driving. I used to get between 25 and 27 MPG where I used to live where my drive was about 10 miles each way at about 45 MPH with little if any stops.

They helped alleviate the torque steer problems in the 07+ models by lowering the engine.
