A friend of mine has this car and he says it keeps pushing most the coolant in the car out of the overfill hose once the car runs normal temps. Hes changed the water pump and thermostat(not at the same time). Says when he changed the thermostat the problem went away but came back. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't had a chance to look at it, just going by what he said.

how are the engine temps? maybe air in the system but if temps are normal, not sure if there's much to worry about.

says it overheats once coolant is pushed out. Said he put 6 gallon of coolant in it past few days. Could it possibly be the cap on the filler tank?

Did he replace the coolant/Rad cap yet?
Also did he bleed the system when he replaced the Therm?

could be a blown head gasket. Its pushing combustion gasses into the coolant system and forcing the coolant out. Look for bubbles in the overfill reservoir.

The older 2.2 (non-Ecotec) is well known for blowing head gaskets. You say it has overheated so I would immediately perform a compression check. What is the mileage?

I blew the head gasket on my 2.2 Cavalier around 70k miles.
