0% Oregon Sales Tax and New Car Purchase

I am currently in Portland for my work and realiz they have no sales tax in the whole State!! Compared to California, everything is on sale 8%. Is it possible to purchase a new car here and register it here if I still have a CA DL and Address? Is it legal? I do travel here 25% of the time for my job. I really don't want to ask the dealership this sort of question for obvious reasons.

Nope have to pay taxes for the area where the car will be registered (ie your home state)

Going to college next year in Washington will be rough for me...if somthing is advertised for $.99 then a dollar bill should be enough to buy the damn thing

No it is not possible to do that. I live just north of Portland, OR in Washington State. If or when you attempt to purchase a car in Oregon, then take it to washington, the first thing you do when you register is pay the ~7.9% sales tax.

However - Any items i purchase on the internet, i have shipped to my office in Portland where i work, as to avoid paying sales tax! Business only care about your shipping address, not your billing address. 😉

Hehe I love that. It was rough pumping my own gas when I went to Seattle last weekend but I managed to do it without blowing up anything.

Oh dear god - I avoid getting gas in Oregon at any cost. I guess i'm just not used to someone else pumping my gas.

Not sure what you Oregonians would do if they ever passes legislation that allowed you to pump your own.
