Labels want to end $0.99 music downloads

I got rid of Kazaa lite because I wanted to download music the legal way. I don't mind paying the 99 cents for a song and $9.99 for a full album. Seems fair to me, but if the record companies increase the price of a track from 99 cent to $1.99 then I'm switching back to Kazaa lite. So hopefully the music industry comes to their senses and supports the online music stores.

Do you guys feel the same way?

I use MusicMatch. I love being able to supertag my songs and the radio station kicks ass. I don't mind paying the 99 cents but if they (RIAA) raise the price then it's Kazaa city all the way baby. I'll download MP3's by the truckload and will never EVAR buy another song.

$1.99 isn't bad as long as they give you a B side. If not, fsck em and back to downloading for free.

i'd say... "stick it to the man"... and keep illegally downloading.... buy only when the artists and record producers create GREAT albums and not these suck arse albums with only 1 good song.

I've bought about 15 songs off of iTunes after downloading thousands of them off of Kazaa before the big RIAA spitstorm.

Personally, I think 99 cents is too high. If the price was lower, I would have bought way more songs by now. You know, the songs that kind of get your attention in the 30 second sample but you aren't sure about.

DRM in iTunes also sucks since I have an MP3 deck in my car and not an ipod. It's a pain to burn, rip and retag.

The other week I bought 55 cds for a grand total of $200., All legit. Also, all death/black metal.

Dammit, I'd LOVE to buy music online if they came up with a standard lossless format in a program like itunes without the stupid DRM stuff.

Not that it matters much as I don't like much new music, but there is some old stuff I still don't have and would like to have a song or two off of an album.

*cough* FLAC *cough*

Metallica offered a FLAC-encoded download of one of their albums, IIRC.

I guess I'm the only person that doesn't have a problem buying CDs. I love every song on the CD because it's by the artist that I like, that's why I buy their albums. If I see an album I don't have by an artist I like, I buy it right away.

WELl, it depends. I buy CDs and them put them on my pc for minidisc transfer. From allomp3 I can get FLAC, PCM, Mokey or WMA9 Lossless.

THere is no difference excpet you spend more money than i do.

I'll admit, ther are CD's I buy for special reasons ( radiohaed SE stuff) but otherwise thisis cheaper.

I've read about a program that removes the DRM on iTunes files. While most likely illegal, I see absolutely nothing wrong with doing so if you bought the songs, since you would just be furthering fair use. But, stripping off the DRM wouldn't help you much if you can't play AAC files in your car deck anyways:)

I don't like the idea of musicians' children starving because some people think it's ok to steal. I heard James Hetfield's 5 kids have to share one bedroom in an efficiency apartment, and they eat nothing but ramen.
