The officer was nuts, literally. Earlier that day he drew his gun after pulling over a substitute teacher in front of the elementary school across the street.

He was targeting people he didn't think belonged on the island.

He was terminated after this event (or at least that's what I was told).

He did. I got hit in a hit and run once and all the damages (at least in Florida) fall on you if you can't find the other driver/have witnesses. Basically the insurance companies assume you wrecked your own car.

Turns out the guy was also a server at a place we like to eat called Howley's down here. I took the liberty to call the restaurant just to confirm the guy's story as I know in the restaurant biz calling in prior to a shift especially on a weekend is usually looked at as BS esp since the guy's Jeep didn't look like it was even hit unless you looked under the bumper. The guys Grand Marquis was all fucked up in front. Both lights and grill plus the hood was buckled.

It's funny people think this is fabricated. What really pissed me off is the police did not do a sobriety check on this asshat and just followed him to his home (knowing he was DUI). I believe there is a mandatory minimum prison sentence for DUI hit and run here.

Might have been a cop or govt official. If it was a nice car I'd say it might have been a famous person. A friend of mine from high school has a quite famous father (huge country act) and he was escorted home while DUI quite regularly. Things were a bit different in the 80s though.
