But how much does it cost to actually use it?

My deductible is a bit higher than PPO I had 3 or 4 years ago. Preventative care is free, and check up/physical is free, and I can go to a Walgreens take care clinic if I get a flu or infection and pay 0 out of pocket..

If I were to get seriously injured or need a major surgery, then my maximum out of pocket would certainly be painful, but, not significantly worse than with my previous years plans of the past.

That said I only have single coverage... I think the rises in premiums have mostly been family plans (not subsidizing costs of family plans by charging single plans more)

My premium went up $30/month this year. Right now I am spending $590/month on healthcare after tearing my ACL last year. Premiums plus paying my surgeons, PT, and all the 'adjustments' BCBSIL and I'm about maxed out. It's a struggle, but hopefully I'll be able to play sports again one day because of it.

I was somewhat against aca before. I now think it didn't go far enough.

Insurance industry needs to be put under the knife.

Insurance companies aren't the problem, the absurdly high cost of health care is the problem. Even going to single payer, removing the few percent the insurance companies make, alone won't reduce costs in any significant way because the underlying service that is being insured still costs the same.

Ironically you rarely hear people talking about health care costs, just the evil health insurance companies.
