Do we really know that? It seems pretty clear that cats can get bored.

Regardless, we're splitting hairs. The point is that cats don't hunt until they have enough to eat and then stop hunting. They will kill things even if they don't need to eat them.

That is correct. But they don't do so "for shits and giggles". They don't have a choice.
 
Cats are stupid. I have one cat that I caught playing with a field mouse. Our other cat was caught SLEEPING side by side with a field mouse in a horsebarn. Our dachsund on the other hand has killed 3 snakes and at least 3 field mice that we know of.

you got to be kidding me... the cat i had would play tricks on me just to get outside. it was one smart little sucker, but at least it would bring back what it killed sometimes.
 
Cats are a lot like people, personality-wise. Some are active and efficient, others just want to relax most of the time. Some are very intelligent and others are very dumb.
 
Cats are sadists. They will stop eating to kill a prey animal and return to the food bowl when they get bored with torturing/mutilating it.

Cats are perfectly capable of getting bored, frustrated, content, afraid, and even horny. The argument that animals' "instincts" are distinguishable from human emotions is pretty silly. What do you think your emotions are? They are instinctive drives, the same as other animals have.

this made me LOL because my cat would bring me worms and leave them by my chair. Lol , I can see my cat thinking "Here you go large dumb human, practice on something that doesn't move so fast like this worm."
 
the eco-KOOKS will run with this. Cat owners will be required to file statements of ownership and responsibility along with environmental reports and fund "species" preservation through ownership fees and taxes. The neighborhood cat ladies will be held responsible for "cat predation".

Not really. The real problem sources are shitheads who don't fix their cats and stray/feral cats.
 
Just a warning...

We were finding dead birds under our bird feeder. I was starting to think the seeds were poisoners or something. Then one day I saw the neighbours cat hiding in the bush next to the tree where the bird seeder was. It would jump out, grab a bird while it was feeding.

So hand you bird feeders higher then us lol.

The former is a big cause of the feral issue. Cat gets preggers, owner releases kittens and keeps mamma. Rinse repeat.

I have a colony...two new cats showed up today with bells on. I cut the collars off of them as they were not break away. I can't tell if they are spayed or not, they were both female it looked like.

As far as wild birds, I really don't get this arguement. For most people and businesses, birds are far more a nuisance than cats or even random rodents.

I don't declare jihad on all birds though. It seems the bird lovers are the most wacky group out there.

There is a house on the other side of my block that inherited an old single lane access road to the school that is the source of most of our cat issues. They cover that access road in bird seed each morning. There is crap everywhere. These people also use that road for their trash which looks like crap as well.

When I used to walk my dog past the birds and they'd all scatter, the people used to scold me to please curb my dog from chasing the birds. I was always like WTF, we are just walking.
 
Not all cats are like this... I had a fieldmouse stuck in a drain pipe at home with no way out. All I could hear was scratching so I went to see- the cat was standing there looking down at it.

I tried to grab the mouse and the little shit bit me so I dropped him on the floor. And what does the cat do, she looks at it scampering off, then looks at me with a 'way to go dumb ass, you let it go free' look.

Nope... definitely not a killer that cat

false assumption on your part that it's a right/wrong issue. The eco-KOOKS will want social/economic/species justice. Cat registration/confiscation is in order. Large fines/fees will be used to fund enforcement and monitoring of "cat" predation species and cat owners will be held responsible for assaults and deaths thru monitoring and neighborhood watch groups.

I don't know what sort of bird population is indignious to Florida. But up north there are what we call "song birds" that include Cardinals, finches, nuthatches, flickers, blue birds, ect. Most of them are smaller, non-invasive species that are pleasant to have around and fun to watch. Cats will kill them off of feeders or from low placed nests and really hurt some bird populations.

I couldn't give a shit if they were knocking off sparrows or starlings which are both invasive species that are largely out of check, but cats usually aren't selective.
