when i end explorer.exe in processes.... everything goes away (start button, icons, everything) and what is left is my background. Cpu usage goes down to 0-3 % and when I open up explorer.exe again by going to 'new task', everything returns to normal and cpu usage is low again like it always...

I've always had the same amount of startup items. It just suddenly occured yesterday and today for some reason...I haven't been doing anything special.

explorer.exe seems to use over 120 000 kb for some reason. it fluctuates from that to 160 to 93 then in the 100's again.

K, I opened up the volume slider but it was along with the other ones too. I clicked on it and all I heard was that "ding" sound everytime i clicked the slider. Yeah, all the wires are properly plugged in and tight

my soundcard is integrated on the motherboard (ASUS P4P800-DLX) Also this hasn't happened before, just recently.

Forgot to mention that the period where it goes louder, it lasts for a few seconds. And even when the volume reaches constant level, it sometimes does the volume changing thing.

I just figured the problem out, it wasted me a few hours. Turns out that I left a proxy in IE and forgot about it, and it probably stopped functioning, making IE and MSN stop working too. Such a simple solution yet I had to scan my comp for viruses and defragment

For some reason today I can't connect to my MSN and my IE does not work. When I use another browser (MyIE2) the internet works. I have tried reinstalling MSN and IE but the same problem still occurs. Any suggestions? Everything was working fine yesterday and ppl in the residence have their msn's...
