Ok....Got my system working...sort of. I now have a 2.53 p4, 512 megs of RDRAM and a 9700 Pro.... I managed to squeeze out over 14k 3dmarks last night. Problem is, Unreal Tournament 2003 runs like crap and Battlefield 1942 crashes. I'll troubleshoot those problems...my question is this. I keep...
A followup question...I searched the boards and couldn't really find any advice on Mushkin memory...its the standard 1066 i guess. I got my money back on the OCZ I had bought after I read a lot...hope I'm not too wishywashy :)
Also...I couldn't find any 256 meg chips locally so rather than...
Ok....went to Fry's and picked up 4 128meg Mushkin 1066 Rdram. Anyway, the salesguy insisted that I buy some kind of chip called a Terminator and told me that the ram would not work without it. As far as I know, Rambus ram needs to be installed in pairs, and in my system (Gigabyte 8Ihxp) I will...
Bump (I'd like this answered too)
Myself, I've tracked down 4x128mb of 1066 Mushkin RDram at a good deal...wonder if having 4 at 128 rather than 2 at 256 will cause a performance hit at all. I'm using the same Gigabyte mobo.

Ok...had a close call there. I had 2 sticks of OCZ Extreme Performance RDRAM 1066 MHz Memory (256MB) from hardcorecooling.com. Anyway, it was a huge fiasco...the guy held onto my order for 2 weeks because I didn't pay the fee to get it out the same day. Sheesh...after 3 more calls, I finally...
Ok...I will soon be exchanging a motherboard. I've done ram before and the occasional (yeah, right--live every 6 mos.) video card upgrade. I've even attempted installing a new hard drive. I've always been leery of the motherboard. It seems like a tougher job, but I will attempt it.
I need to...
Ok...I had posted earlier and got great feedback on how to spend the 1000 or so bucks to upgrade my current system.
Anyway, I went with:
P4 2.53
Gigabyte HiXP motherboard
OCZ Extreme Performance RDRAM 1066 Memory - 256MB x 2
Radeon 9700 Pro
My current system, being an AMD 1 gighz has 640...

I hope I don't come across as being too much of a newb.
Currently:
I am running Windows XP on a 1gighz AMD Thunderbird chip on an Asus A7V with 640 megs of DDR133 RAM. I am using a Geforce2 and a SBLive.
I now have 1000 bucks to upgrade my system.
Here is what I know:
I plan to buy the Radeon...
Well....I drove the 100 miles and the manager wouldn't give me the 25 bucks off. But I did get one with 12#'s on the serial that says Lite-On and shows under WinXP as a Lite-On... I'll send in for the 40 buck rebate...but all and all it's a good deal. (I upgraded my Hp8100, 4x write 2x rewrite...
I am about to drive 100+ miles for this deal....and am a bit confused...Do I tell the guy at the counter that online I was given a coupon for 25 off a 100 dollar purchase? I have yet (searched for an hour) for a coupon to print....What gives?
