Why do ppl Hate Rambus So much?

"i've read many posts where users dont like rambus. I dont use it, but i dont c any reasons to hate it. Its faster than DDR and pretty cheap. Maybe not cheaper than ddr of course. " I hate it becuase it's not really that fast, and the things it does do good are not really important to me...

Rambus is up to their old tricks again

--- zemus: the latency of RDRAM does in fact increase as you add greater amounts. Because the bus is serial there are timing issues involved in getting a signal from one end of the bus, to the end, and back again. For this reason, when first booted, each chip on the bus calculates its offset...

Rambus is up to their old tricks again

----- Latency is a big matter on RAM. Because rambus is in serial, the more ram you have the overall latency of it increases. Thats why its NOT good to be used in server applications that demand a huge amount of ram. However, Rambus latency can actually be *lower* than DDR SDram latency. Once...

What new piece of hardware are you most looking towards this year?

hammerk, if it does indeed show this year, and if it doesn't it's still probabbaly worth the little wait lookinfr forward to a Clawhammer running at 1.8 to 2.1 Ghz, and will adopt early, just like I did with K7 Just hope AMD gets there sh1t togther with a better product release...

    Thoroughbred to Require 45 Amps

Swanny is correct, When the voltage is bumped down to core voltage, it leaves alot of room for higher current Here is something a little fun to think about for those who might not beleive that you can get more current than one puts in, your power socket in the average north american home is...

What does "Asynchronous Memory Clock" mean exactly?

"I'm pretty sure it means that you can adjust the memory clock independantly of the FSB, but I'm not quite sure and need to confirm! " this would be correct. In addition it means it also is buffered, in this case it's just 1 unit wide. this buffer is simply to seperate the two differant...

hammer this and hammer that...someone clear it up please!!

"ok, i know some of them are for servers and some are not. what is it? i am confused. should i build now or wait for one of these hammers? " I would not wait, hammer is coming soon, but not that soon. Sure it will be available in a few months, but I imagine there will be some form of...

Poll: what's AMD's big news tomorrow gonna be?

The rumor mill at Vans hardware is even hinting to something a little more interesting http://www.vanshardware.com it's to the effect that MS is telling Intel to adopt x86-64 or else get left behind

Is 256MB of RAM good enough for a game machine

Zemus; Nonsense? You think you need a dozen programs open to utilize 512mb of ram? I think not. Im not saying 512 isnt a lot, im saying if you can afford it, and you're not cost-cutting to the point of sacrificing something else to get the extra memory, then why the hell would you not go for...

Is 256MB of RAM good enough for a game machine

Don't be fooled by any of this nonsense, 256 is just fine today. 512 is for people who for some reason feel it neccesary to think it's really cool to keep every program open at one time or something. If your like that, then get 512, if you don't wanna waste money, 256 is fine

Intel's Pentium 4 Prescott: HyperThreading, More Cache Memory, and x86-64?

<< Its not called x86-64 for nothing. There must've been compromises. I'm no expert, but I have to imagine there must['ve been. Maybe, maybe not. I will agree that one of the biggest things on 64-bit CPU's (More Memory) x86-64 does have, but still, I dunno. Can anyone fill me in? >> x86-64...

    USB vs. legacy

Firm believer in keeping the mouse and keyboard legacy reason, performance is garenteed with the legacy keyboard and mouse, USB can not garentee this when having to share with other devices for everything else, USB is definatly the way to go though. Well except sound, thats just plain dumb.

    Who knows their Digital cameras?

"Zemus , what kind of batteries are you using with your dx3900 and what kind of life do you get out of them? I know most of the current Kodaks only use 2 AA at a time and this should make the battery life VERY short, even with rechargables. Just curious. " The Kodak DX3900 use pretty much all...
