Feedback on Components for New Build

Ok so it sounds like I may go with the Taichi board then. I'm sure either one would meet my needs feature-wise but I want something that is quality and will last. My previous system is 9+ years old (MSI board with Intel Core 2 Duo) so I tend to keep things for a while. :) Is the RAM at...

Feedback on Components for New Build

Thanks @Markfw. What makes the ASRock X399 Taichi the best board for that platform in your opinion? How does it compare with the ASUS Zenith Extreme? Most reviews tend to have the ASUS Zenith Extreme shown as the best feature-wise at least and that's what AMD supposedly sent out as the test...

Feedback on Components for New Build

Thanks for the prompt reply UsandThem. I will also look into the X399 Taichi. Doesn't seem to have quite the same specs but I'm sure it could also work for what I need. That fast 1TB SSD will be my boot drive and serve most apps but I also have other older SATA drives I plan to use as well as...

Feedback on Components for New Build

Hi all, Looking for feedback on the below components for my next PC build. Primarily for everyday power use, photo and video editing, etc. No real gaming. Case: Fractal Define R6 Blackout with window Mobo: ASUS Zenith Extreme (seems to have mixed reviews but apparently still top choice) CPU...

Recover data on HD by swapping PCB?

Thanks for the reply. To get 9 minutes or less of recovery time by placing it in the freezer and risking not being able to RMA it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I guess I'll just rebuild the OS and restore the data.

Recover data on HD by swapping PCB?

Hi all, I had a RAID 0 config with two 74GB raptor drives and one of them recently failed with a clicking noise. I have a replacement on the way but I'd like to try and salvage the data via a full Ghost image if possible to prevent rebuilding (I have the data backed up). I've seen online that...

    Home Backup Suggestions

Yeah my P4 system is PCI only. I'm not too concerned about rebuilding speeds. Can you make a recommendation on a sata raid card for Linux? Hard drives are kind of pricey now so I may wait or that.

    Home Backup Suggestions

Thanks for the quick reply pitz! I know enough about Linux to get around and have xenserver experience. Do you think one of my spare p4 systems with 1gb ram would be enough so I don't need to buy a full rig aside from a Sara controller and the drives.

    Home Backup Suggestions

Hi all, With more computers and data now I think I need to redo my backp strategy and am seeking some advice. I have one main Win7 PC, a Win7 laptop, a Win XP test system, a new Mac Mini, and some other test Linux systems. I currently only backup data from the main Win7 PC to my external 1TB...

Network Hard Drive with Online Backup Option

Thanks again for the suggestions. The cloud solution seems somewhat expensive. I think they pay around $35 now for a few GBs worth of backup. Backblaze.com sounds reasonable at $5 so I'll probably look into that more. Happy Holidays!

Network Hard Drive with Online Backup Option

Thanks for the suggestions. There is really no hard budget at this time. I'll need to get with the business owners to see what the want to do. We'll probably end up keeping the current mozypro.com remote backup solution but run it on a new "backup only" system or run it from the system that...

Network Hard Drive with Online Backup Option

Thanks for the detailed reply. One TB is plenty to start, but I don't think it is practical for them to host another drive off site as they are not technical and wouldn't want it in their home on 24x7. I think an online backup service of some kind will be necessary. Maybe a hosting company with...

Network Hard Drive with Online Backup Option

Hi all, I'll be changing over the backup solution for a small office soon. Presently, they have 6 systems on a LAN where one system is the main server and backs up files from itself and the other systems to mozypro.com. They would like to centralize things and go with a basic NAS device, but...
