An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Well... it's all right, it does sound like I'm doing it just for fun since I'm doing it on a K6-2... mostly nobody here must have such a machine as their main (or only, like in my case) PC anymore. And... yes, you're right, the original 504 MHz overclock I had did outperform the current 550 MHz...

Theoretically how high could I go?

Apparently, you have an Athlon XP processor with the clock multiplier internally locked. Then, my guess is you're at 13.5 x 150. And if you are interested, there are ways to unlock the multiplier in those Athlon XP processors but I'm not the one to talk about that as I'm not very knowledgeable...

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Well... I gotta keep it until I have the dough for a newer system... which I don't even know if is anytime in the near future... perhaps it would even be wise to turn down to 550 not to abuse it too much, don't know... I have some reserve money I could use for replacing the K6 CPU if I get it...

    Best gpu cooler for speed?

Taking a ride on this topic, but with ages older hardware... I've also been looking to replace the cooling on my Riva TNT2, its default clocks are 125/143 MHz but sometimes I'm getting some graphics corruption (I believe it's one of those stock-overclocked cards). It has a small, fanless...

    are celly coppermine 633's locked?

Whoa, thanks for the correction - guess I just learned something more.

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Memtest86 reports my memory as OK after running all tests (0 errors)... by the way I even noticed my memory bandwidth seems low (336 MB/s) - however it's running at AGP clock since my mobo doesn't support running memory at FSB frequency when it's set over 100 MHz. So then the CPU is the culprit...

    are celly coppermine 633's locked?

As far as I can remember, Celeron Coppermine processors weren't locked in any way - actually, they've been referred to as some of the greatest overclockers ever, I remember seeing once about a guy who did (or at least claimed to) take his Celeron 566 to 933 MHz with just a larger heatsink...

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

My mobo's settings are all done via jumper caps. Those are even painful to work with... wish I had a soft-setting mobo. Well... I fiddled around with those and was able to push it as far as 560 MHz (112 x 5) now, I'm posting using the overclocked system right now... but its stability is leaving...

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Do those copper shims used in Athlon XP processors fit deplated K6's? If so, would that help me not to crush my CPU while installing the heatsink? Thanks in advance!

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Thanks everyone! I thought of deplating the chip before, but wasn't sure if that was a thing to do (I'm still afraid of crushing the die after I deplate it, especially with my cooler, its mounting clip is too hard)... well, I'll attempt it as the last resort, I guess. About FSB things... I...

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

Well, I actually upped the FSB by 12 MHz (100 to 112) and downed the multiplier from 5x to 4.5x to get 504 MHz. (My motherboard doesn't have fine FSB frequency control, supports 66, 75, 83, 95, 100, 112, and 124, but 124 goes too unstable). About cooling... I'm using a P3 cooler on it. My memory...

An overclock for difficulty instead of max speed (K6-2)

I'm new here, and have a question you might think is out of place since everybody here seems to be overclocking top-end processors and would give that evil stare at someone attempting this with a low-end processor like mine. But my question is: Has someone EVER been successful in overclocking a...
