    Critique my Build ($1500)

Read the review. The 1900XT is roughly 20% faster than the 1950pro in Anandtech's tests.

Can we extrapolate the strength of NK's nuclear device from it's seismic magnitude?

[Q=jssheridan]If it was sent up as a 'Gun' device where you shoot a subcritical mass projectile of HE U-235 into another subcritical mass of HE U-235, then that is very unlikely to fizzle. The velocity of the projectile needs to be fast enough. I think the 'Little Boy' device was 300 m/s. The...

    Lukewarm : 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-750 @ ZZF - $220

My system (Gigabyte DS3, Kingston DDR2-750) posts fine at 667mhz / 4-4-4-12 timings. I haven't run any stress tests, and I'm not likely to for a while. I can't move this up above 'lukewarm' until I find out if this memory can bust past 433mhz, and I'm not likely to do that, as I'm running...

Conroe question - Disadvantage to running DDR2 800 memory w/1066FSB CPU

I'm in agreement with this. There's no sense in getting anything over DDR2-533 unless if you absolutely must overclock your processor... ...except that DDR2-667 prices are running equal with DDR2-533 prices right now. So you might as well get some slightly uplevel stuff, as you won't be...

AOpen F501 - Folding Cases. Interesting.

In the furniture industry, those able to move to flatpack designs (Bush and O'Sullivan come to mind, but the original and reigning cham-peen is IKEA) have both provided much lower costs to the consumer while outcompeting all other companies. It's been such a wildly successful technique that it's...

    Word of Warning About 7900GTO

They don't come right out and say it, but the X1900XT gives you, on average, more frames-per-second on the dollar. If that's your main concern, then don't get the GTO. (Personally, performance for me means frames-per-second plus noise and heat. I was about to get a Sapphire X1900XT 256, but I...

    It's arrived! eVGA 7900 GTO

I know this was probably discussed back when the issues with the 7900GTX came up, but I can't find the thread. So - it looks like Samsung sold eVGA some pretty crappy chips. What sort of actions do you take if you're a company like eVGA? (Besides switching memory manufacturers to Infineon, of...

eVGA GeForce 7900 GTO 512MB - $255 shipped from ChiefValue

So the memory may not be able to be clocked up to GTX spec? That didn't bother me. If it fails within a week? No big deal - lifetime warranty. I've been living without games for four years, another month won't hurt. I wasn't feeling bad about this purchase... ...until now. EDIT ...

    Lukewarm : 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-750 @ ZZF - $220

Do you have an Intel board or an AMD board? If you have an Intel, I'm certain that it's acting as it should. If you have an AMD - and a processor that should be using the memory at DDR2-667 speeds - we have a problem.

    Lukewarm : 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-750 @ ZZF - $220

I've got a DS3 and the kit on order - ETA 10/09. I'll let you know. (I should mention that the SPD data for the memory kit includes lax DDR2-533 settings @ 1.8V. I'm told that many high-end memory sticks don't include any SPD data except for the highest rated speed and timings, and that this...

    Lukewarm : 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-750 @ ZZF - $220

Decent Kingston 2GB DDR2-750 kit from ZipZoomFly w/ free shipping. Timings are 4-4-4-12 and SPD settings include DDR2-667 timings at 1.8V. Link is here. A review at HotHardware is here - you'll see why it's not a wonderful deal. It has trouble hitting very low latencies at low speeds. But...

eVGA GeForce 7900 GTO 512MB - $255 shipped from ChiefValue

In for one from NewEgg. I'm upgrading from an Athlon Thunderbird 900mhz / GeForce2 MX to an E6400 / 7900GTO monster. This will be interesting. And, in a side note, I bought memory from ZipZoomFly (about which I will post shortly) on 9/30. They still haven't shipped the memory or posted the...

    P965 stepping c2

I just got the following back from Gigabyte : Dear Customer, The C2 stepping was only released by Intel at the end of September. It probably be in early November before this version chipset is on the retail/distribution level. We will not distinguish stepping versions of the 965...

    P965 stepping c2

What if we're not interested in performance differences? I'd prefer to buy a board that doesn't have odd issues with reboots or high-voltage memory, so I'm hoping that the C2 stepping goes towards solving these issues. Also, a forum poster at HardOCP claims to have recieved the C2 stepping on...
