Official Black Friday 2005 Sale Ad Thread

Assuming that the ad or OP didn't just mistype the model number, it wouldn't surprise me to find that it's basically the same laptop. Manufacturers will sometimes create reseller-specific model numbers for things like washing machines et al so that consumers can't buy them (or match them) at...

WARNING: Those looking to get HDTV From DirecTV

They are launching four new satellites, two specifically for HDTV programming. One is already up and in testing. Go to the DirecTV site in the About Us, Headlines, and see the article dated 5/25/05. FWIW, I was an original DTV adopter, July 1994, before they even officially rolled out service...

APPLE Cinema HD 23-inch LCD Display $699.98 at COMPUSA

Actually, that model of the 23-inch came out in 2002, and carried up into 2004, when they switched it to the aluminum bezel for the current models. OOS in Raleigh, NC too (and probably everywhere else in the CUSA world).

$35 Mini wireless color camera at BJ's Wholesale B&M YMMV

Found these in BJ's (similar to Sam's and Costco) marked for $34.99 OTD+tax. Note: mine rang up incorrectly at $79, but they corrected that when I showed them the shelf tag. This is the unit: SecurityMan Mini-AirWatch The above site lists the unit through a reseller at $99. You can't...

    Canon EOS 20D 8.2MP Digital Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm Lens Retail ***Free 2nd Day $1399

The camera body has gotten glowing reviews. The supplied "kit" lens is considered crap, with some of them having focusing problems on top of that. Having said that, places like Ritz are still charging $1500 for the body only, so this is still a good deal.

OfficeMax deals for 2-8 to 2-14

The DirecTivo upgrade guide I read said that a larger drive would work, but only the first 120G would be available for use due to design limitations. You can either add the drive (but this requires an additional bracket and some other junk), or just clone your current drive to the new one...

    Warm: 1X DVD-R, +R in thin cases 10 @ $8 at CompUSA B&M

    Warm: 1X DVD-R, +R in thin cases 10 @ $8 at CompUSA B&M

These are CompUSA branded DVDs, either minus R or plus R, sold in a stack of ten in thin-style CD cases. $7.99 after instant rebate. While 1X sucks, I intend to use them for backing up DirecTivo recordings via direct-to-disk video recording, so speed is not an issue, nor even absolute data...

Netgear MR814 Wireless ROuter, $24.99 AR, Shipped

This is not intended as a thread-crap... Just today, an article showed up on Slashdot about this model of router causing NTP DOS floods at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It seems that the firmware had a hardcoded reference to the UWM time server, and would hit it at once-a-second, trying...
