The UD5 has a better PCIe configuration than the UD3, otherwise there isn't much difference. If you don't plan on running multiple GPUs, it doesn't much matter. I have to agree that neither are worth the extra cash outlay over the X58 Extreme, but in the end that's up to you.

Every CPU varies in overclocking ability, so you may have a jewel that can hit 4Ghz with no trouble, or you may have a dud that can't hit 3.1 no matter what you do. But you should be able to hit at least 3.4Ghz even with the full complement of RAM. There's really only one way to find out- try it...

The only difference between Xeons and Core i7's is that Xeons are binned higher and have support for ECC RAM. They are aimed at Servers and workstations, but besides those two differences are no different than an i7.

hmm... unfortunately I don't have HBO. I do own the Band of Brothers miniseries and I think its incredible. With all the poor feedback about The Pacific, I'll probably not be buying this one though and instead try and find a way to see some of the episodes before deciding for myself.

What clockspeed are you running at? I'm running my Q9300 at 3.5Ghz and it's only hitting around 69C under Prime95 load. Granted, I'm running a much newer cooler then you are, so if your OC is at all aggressive, those temps seem about right, and they aren't terrible. They might shorten the proc's...
