So many socket 1150 motherboards... where to start?

I have been pondering the H97 boards. I've used Asus in the past, but I don't have a strong brand preference. I have $250 maybe $300 in mind (not including Windows). I need at minimum a cpu, motherboard, ram, and a power supply, so I was thinking along the lines of G3220-ish, 4gb ram, solid...

So many socket 1150 motherboards... where to start?

The psu that originally came with it died long ago, so no worries there.

So many socket 1150 motherboards... where to start?

I have a lonely Antec SX630II case up in a closet. Is there any reason not to stick with it? Two front fans, one rear, no side ones. I confess I have dreams of m-itx, but I'm pretty frugal.

So many socket 1150 motherboards... where to start?

After looking at several major brands, I suspect I will find no "official" support for Vista whatsoever since it is no longer in "mainstream support". Perhaps that is not a bad thing since I should probably put that copy of Vista on an old XP machine I have.

Help picking PSU for new build

As a starting point, I recently bookmarked this list of recommended psus at Tom's Hardware (but I don't know know enough about them to make a more specific recommendation).

So many socket 1150 motherboards... where to start?

I could use some guidance in choosing among the endless number of socket 1150 motherboards. I'm all for competition, but do we really need 321 variations (per Newegg)? o_O I doubt I'm up to date on all the newest features, but I'm looking for at least these things: ATX or mATX 1150...

Solved, somehow. Was: Laptop boot troubles: boots to cursor from HD...

After more mucking around with the stuff on the BootCD, I've managed to get the laptop booting again via some combination of deleting the partition, a fixmbr or two, and and re-running the Toshiba restore cd.

Solved, somehow. Was: Laptop boot troubles: boots to cursor from HD...

I have no fondness for restore cds either, but, alas, I only have a retail XP home cd and not an OEM one. I had wanted to do a repair install, but mixing retail and OEM versions seemed...unwise. Anyway, if I boot of the retail xp home cd--without actually installing anything--it says I...

I have a Toshiba Satellite A55 laptop running Windows XP Home that won’t boot. When I received the laptop it would boot to the choose-your-flavor-of-safe-mode screen (normal, safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.) Selecting any of the options would just reboot the computer to the...

Testing some Crucial memory – won’t post in Asus M3A78-EM mobo or Acer M5100

I have two unused sticks of Crucial DDR2 PC2-6400 that I’ve been trying to test recently with no luck. The ram says CT25664AA800.Y16F and BL1117P.T2 First I tried it (the pair) on an Asus M3A78-EM motherboard with the Corsair XMS2 memory that I already had installed. Second, I tried it...

Can I stop my CRT from turning off and back on again during fast user switching?

Yes, each account uses the same resolution. The CRT turns off and on twice per switch--once when it switches to the screen that gives you a choice of user accounts and again when it switches to a particular account.
