Your BIOS was stable at default speeds but didn't over clock as well as my BIOS.

Here are photos of my Sapphire HD7950 950mhz edition which uses a reference HD7970 PCB and is compatible with reference HD7970 aftermarket heatsinks and water blocks.

CL Liquid Pro is so thin that when applied properly that you need to have as perfect as possible contact coverage between DIE and block for it to work right.

This thread helped me alot in my delidding experiments with a 3570k.
Seems clear to me that delidding IB helps lower temps and thermal dissipation performance when proper mount and effective TIM are used.

Can you take the heat sink off and post photos of PCB? I have seen or read of 4 different versions of the Vapor X HD7950. Some photos of PCB will help to determine all the differences of your card. I'm thinking of getting one if it is built on reference HD7970 PCB.
