Enigma project cracks 60 year old code

Lol...just reading that and was about to post it. Really neat stuff. Not often a history buff and computer buff can be doubly satisfied.

    Power Source?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Actually, Geoff's question is a good one I might appreciate some help on. I'm running an Athlon XP 2500 on an MSI board with a VIA K8T800 chipset, a real old 20GB HD, and a nvidida 5200FX which I could even swap out for a 4-year-old el cheapo video card. So...

    Power Source?

Had an el cheapo PS that came free with my case die out on a F@H box I was running. Just wondering what you guys suggest for a cheap power source replacement. All my instincts as a DIY computer builder are saying "don't buy a cheap PS" but this is just an Athlon XP 2500 and all it does is...

    Crunch on a GPU

Interesting stuff, thanx. Just a cursory: 3GHz P4= 6 GFLOPS FX5900= 20 GFLOPS That's pretty remarkable. I'll read it over more carefully when my biochem exam is finished.

    Crunch on a GPU

How would a GPU even compare though? So my 6600GT runs at 500MHZ, is that a direct 1/4th comparison to a 2 GHz Athlon 64? And I'm assuming all those el cheapo graphics cards I'm using in my F@H dedicated boxes would be pretty useless, or even unsupported. Still, better than nothing I guess.

    Folding@Home: seven day stats 12-18-2005

Hmmm...sounds interesting. My dad has an old P3, and I want so say it's around 500MHz. I'll look into it. The x-factor is that electricity gets split between my two roommates and I, whereas a faster chip would come fully out of my wallet. Man, I can be a dick sometimes. Maybe I...

    Folding@Home: seven day stats 12-18-2005

First time seeing these stats, and just have to say, GREAT WORK! Just got my second CPU up yesterday. The case is the cardboard box the wireless card came in. Had a quick question. Would anyone venture a guess on what the SLOWEST CPU speed would be that would still be worthwhile...

    Noob Networking Question

Yeah, both "boxes" have NIC's on the respective motherboards, hence my planned approach. One new snaffu is that Windows XP is not going to work out on the pile of scraps (couldn't switch over an OEM license) so it's going to have to be Win98, unless I want to open up the whole Linux can of...

    Noob Networking Question

Hey all. I've got a desktop in my room which is part of the home wireless network and a pile of old scraps sitting next to it that will hopefully be my new Folding@home machine (taped to a piece of cardboard, no less.) One thing I don't have is an extra wireless card. The router is downstairs...
