Sweet deal! I filled out the order online, applied the coupon, and chose in-store pickup. About 2 hours later I drive to Office Depot and pick up the drive. The drive rung up as 158.84 but the $25 coupon was not automatically applied. I thought I was screwed because I didn't have the coupon...
Cool... that Gainward card is exactly what I'm talking about. But I'm having second thoughts about going with a GeForce 4600. The Radeon seems to have kick-ass performance.
I currently have a Quadro4 NVS 200 video card. It has dual DVI but I find its performance in games is not all that great (my original GeForce 3 was faster).
Any word on a high end GeForce having dual DVI connectors? Or perhaps a Radeon 9700/9800?
Like most people, I was a bit miffed by some of the lingering bugs in Roxio ECDC 5.x. I really didn't want to give them any more of my money. But I gave in and purchase 6.0. Actually I find it VERY nice. The DVD/Video CD creator is excellent. DirectCD has been replaced with a redesigned...
If you see ghosting on your LCD, it's because you're using an analog signal. Some analog cards are fine, others show ghosting. But if you use a DVI card you will have razor sharp text. I basically consider DVI a necessity with > 15" LCDs.
Command queueing is only ONE area where SCSI romps on IDE. More importantly SCSI drives can operate at 15,000rpm, and have MUCH, MUCH lower latency. Can you say sub-4ms access times on a Cheetah 15k.3? Also, SCSI drives are rock solid and made to run 24x7. IDE drives usually die prematurely...
Yep, most of them are. The higher end Dell monitors use Trinitron tubes. However, I believe the "high end" Dell monitors are more like the "mid level" Sony ones. The high end Sony CRTs are definitely better than the high end Dell rebadged monitors.
By the way, the rounded SCSI cables are indeed cheap at SVCompucycle, but they do not include active termination. Most LVD drives I've seen do not have termination built-in to the drive. So don't forget to get an active terminator! I'm not sure if I would really trust those cables though...
Wowza! Did you read on storagereview how hot this drive gets? Even with active cooling they said it was too hot to touch. I agree that this will blow away the WD 120GB 8MB drive. I have a Quantum (Maxtor) Atlas 10K II and it isn't as fast as this IBM SCSI, but my Quantum still blows away my...
I use a pure SCSI system with the exception of a WD 120GB 8MB cache drive. My SCSI Atlas 10K II is faster than the WD drive. I am really looking forward to the Cheetah 15k.3 drives which have blistering speeds. SCSI may not be as useful for optical drives any more, but it is still the best...
Perhaps the synthetic oil will last that long without breaking down, but the filter will definitely need to be changed more frequently! I agree that every 3000 miles is old skool and not necessary.
