Is 8gb of DDR5 equivalent in bandwidth to 12-16gb of DDR3?

Size does it not make faster at all. Just bigger.

Improving Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB Benchmarks

ad 3: It's a core mechanic of a modern Windows system. Turning it off just boggles my mind. Yes, HDDs have to be indexed initially, that can lead to some noise in the first few hours. After that you just have a pretty great index. On SSDs this index is created within minutes. You simply win...

Improving Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB Benchmarks

2, 3 and 5 don't do anything good and 4 is actively slowing your computer down.

    SSD Tweak Tools

True, but only for space. Both don't harm your SSD in any meaningful way. If you need every bit of spacethis is a good place to start. But if you have enough space left you don't need to bother.

    SSD Tweak Tools

... which also does some pretty pointless things. It's not a deal breaker, but it improves basically nothing unless something was broken in the first place.

    SSD Tweak Tools

The best tweak is a freshly installed OS. Win7 and Win8 then are already optimized for SSD, everything else is mostly snake oil. There are some pretty stupid "tweaks" out there, which do more harm than anything. So if you use Win7 or Win8: Install OS on SSD done

    Trim and Intel SRT

Yes. There are no partitons after a format, already done. Yes. Yes. If you want to play it REALLY safe, you dont partition all the space Intel RST leaves for you. If you use the max amount for caching (64GB), there are 55GB left. You can either use all of that and always leave some free, or you...

    Trim and Intel SRT

It's even easier. When you set up Smart response with Intel RST it automatically creates the 64GB partition for caching. Then you go into the Windows menu where you create and manage partitions (sorry, I use a german Windows, I don't know the english name). There you will see the 64GB partition...

Suggestions on Backup Regimen [No Raid]

A few ideas. If your OS is going to be Win7/8 x64 I would strongly recommend giving it at least 64GB. Less is possible, but it's good if you don't have to think a about space all the time. 2nd Stage HDD should not be inside the case but a external drive, kept away from your PC. 1st should be...

Intel 520 and Samsung 840 pro

I would use the Samsung for Boot and 64GB of the Intel as a cache for a large HDD. That leaves almost 200GB of free SSD space for stuff. Of course only if your mainboard supports Smart Response.

    Intel SRT

Well, I did the IDE -> AHCI thingy and it worked extremely well. I installed the AHCI drivers, rebooted to BIOS, activated AHCI and Win automatically used the drivers previously fed. Done. I am not saying it is as easy with AHCI -> RAID, but it is worth a try. The concept seems to be the same...

    Intel SRT

There is a way to switch from IDE to AHCI without reinstalling windows, couldn't you apply the same principal to a AHCI -> RAID switch? Great posting, I would like to add to that. My understandig is that Intel SRT does a bit more than that, at least that's what I have read. Intel SRT should...

How to optimize large/small SSD + large HDD for lightroom?

Here is how I do it. The RAWs themselves are on a classic HDD, cached by a SSD via Intel Smart Response. Everything else is on my main SSD (830). Catalog Camera Raw Preview Folder (do not forget that, it seems to be the most speed sensitive!) But in all honesty, Lightroom does profit a lot...
