I'm setting up a new HP zBook 17 g2 and am getting very poor DPC latency performance (> 6000 us) when running from the PCIe SSD.
I've re-installed the OS (Win 7 64 bit) on both the PCIe SSD and a SATA HDD and the DPC latency performance is fine when running from the HDD (50 - 100 us) but...
I gave up for a few weeks but want to try to get to the bottom of this.
Re: OS: Yes - performance is slightly worse with the same OS (Win 7). It gets a bit worse again if I use Win 8.1.
Re: ASUS tools - I didn't install any of them, only the drivers for the chipset, SATA, LAN, etc.
Again...
Yes - the BIOS did switch the boot disk and I had to change it back. It still won't boot in RAID mode. Some more web searching revealed that's pretty standard. Apparently you can boot into safe mode and it'll load the appropriate driver then boot. Would be nice if Windows did that...
I used the Intel controller for my SSD's and the Marvell controller for my HDD's (which have the RAID array).
I tried to move the RAID array to the Intel controllers but then I have to switch the controller type to "RAID" instead of "AHCI". When I do that, Windows won't boot, I assume...
I'm running Windows 8.1 on a 4930k / ASUS X79 Deluxe and am using the onboard Marvell controller with a two-disk RAID 0 array. There are two drives on the RAID 0 partition and every time I include them in a backup (using Genie Backup Manager Pro 9), the backup hangs at some point.
After the...
I recently swapped my trusty i7 920 on Asus P6T for a 4930k on an Asus X79 Deluxe and am having difficulty getting the same performance for digital audio apps. It appears the new motherboard just can't match the latency I had with the i7 920 on P6T: projects that ran fine on the old hardware...
Yes - the drive always works fine if I leave the power off until Windows boots up.
Since I don't use it that often, I'm just going to leave it turned off and wait until I'm in Windows to turn it on when I need it.
Not a big deal, just a hassle. And it sure seems like it ought to work...
I just built a new 4930k machine and at some point I started getting very slow boot times during the Windows logo with the dots going around in a circle. It used to hang out there for a few seconds, now it's more like a minute.
I can't figure out how to show what's causing the slow boot. I...
The Blu-Ray drive is set as CD-ROM in the BIOS - I assume that's correct since there's no specific "Blu-Ray" option.
It is in the boot drive list - I'll take it out and see if that helps.
The problem is definitely in the BIOS because when it disappears, the name disappears in the BIOS even...
Yes - the external drive has its own power supply. I am connected to one of the back panel USB ports on the motherboard, if that makes a difference. I've tried a bunch of different USB ports and they all show the same behavior. The HDD works on all of them but the Blu-Ray drive is...
I just upgraded to a 4930k on an Asus X79 deluxe and my USB 3 external Blu-Ray drive doesn't always show up when I boot up. I was using this external drive on my previous setup (i7 920 on Asus P6T deluxe) and it worked fine. I also have a USB 3 external HDD (Seagate 3 TB) that works fine on...
I'm confused about which Asus boards support thunderbolt - the Deluxe does *not* but but Expert and Deluxe Dual do, is that correct? I watched the Newegg video on the Asus Z87 boards and I believe the fellow said the Expert board connection can be configured as display port or thunderbolt but...
OK - so the connections are the same but the electronics in the PSU are different. Do I understand that correctly?
What would happen if you tried using an incompatible PSU with a Haswell board - would it just not boot? Or would it just never drop to the low-power states? How would it know...
Thanks for the info. Weird that they don't mention the compatibility on the product page.
Do the Haswell boards have different power connections? I'm not sure that my PSU came with connectors different than what previous motherboards use.

I've seen it mentioned that the Z87 / Haswell boards require a new power supply connection in order to make use of the low-power states. However, I can't seem to find any info on what power supplies provide that capability.
I bought a Seasonic SS-660XP2 a few months ago and am wondering if...
