Just installed a Global Win WBK38 HSF with great results, all for about $20 from NewEgg. The problem is that now my computer sounds like a Jet Plane!! Who knows of a HSF solution that's a bit quieter, AND will fit my ASUS A7V266-E MoBo (the PAL 8045 won't, according to ASUS).

Is it safe to scrape the old goo off the top side of the CPU (the side in contact with the HS) with something?

not planning to OC. I have the stock HSF on there now and it runs 50-60C. I took the HS off once to change MOBO and just reused it with the same cooling compound as before, and actually wondered if not applying new goo would affect cooling. I'm not sure though. I;ve heard that it mostly just...
Chip is 1600+. not overclocked yet. Runs at 50C in idle, but up to max of about 63C in graphics-heavy games like Deus Ex and Falcon 4.0.
Systems been stable tho.
