Why is AMD CPU's max temp less than Intels?

My Asus board has a reading called CPU temp, which is usually around 10 - 15C hotter than the per core readings, and is what the Q Fan controller is based on. For example; running P95 with a ambient of around 22C, CPU temp shows 59C, while per core shows 48C or so.

    cedar trail is a mutt

If you can do it, I challenge you to. But I did a little research (not much, it's late) on the E6600 and this is the data I found comparing it to the E-350 and chipset: Conroe E6600: 143mm^2 die, 65nm, 65w, $224 945GC chipset: 22.2w Brazos E-350: 75mm^2, 40nm, 18w FCH: 28mm^2 The...

And Intel tries to enter the low-end...

And most of those ~$300 - $400 laptops are powered by the AMD E-350 or E-450. Intel certainly must be feeling the pinch at the lower end of the spectrum.

Why would a pentium II show up as a pentium PRO sometimes?

If the application wasn't aware of the P2's existence, but saw the similarities to the PPro, it would default to that, I presume. Like how C&C 95 will moan at me for running windows 5.1 on XP.

What if AMD partnered with ARM to cross-license AMD's GPU tech?

Are they allowed to? One can only assume the sale to Qualcomm included some non-compete clauses.

Finally some serious discussion! :P But now that x86 is so ingrained into our computing lives, will it ever really go away? Where can ARM really take over without causing significant backwards compatibility issues that most companies and users won't want to put up with?

I'd stick with improving BD as I said in my megapost, basing my statement partially on this Ars article. Maybe the engineers can make some needed adjustments based on what the community, reviews and benchmarks say, if they didn't know before what the public wanted, per se.

    Let's play armchair AMD CEO!

Where to begin? How about with Bobcat: Bobcat Bobcat is already a winning architecture. The focus needs to be on refining it and keeping it competitive. The 28nm die shrink is paramount in this regard, as it will reduce power consumption and allow for higher clocks. The Radeon 7 series is also...

With all the changes going on with AMD, what would you guys do as CEO? Let's try to be sensible and realistic as possible, within the estimated limits of AMD's budget and situation. How would you run the company heading forward? I know not all of us are as knowledgeable in semiconductor...
