Wow...that's tricky. Have you tried a system restore to an earlier time or unstalling a couple of your most recently installed programs? Could be a compatability problem of some kind.
As much as I like 2K as an OS...it's not all that great for games. I mean, it's good considersing it was supposed to be primarily a business OS, but XP handles games much better.
Have you tried the application updates available through Windows Update?
2K is the best OS Microsoft has ever made (IMHO). It's the way to go. However, if you are a gamer, you may want to think about getting XP...it seems to me to have better compatability with older games and it is silghtly faster (my 3DMark in XP is about 300 points higher).
