can be affected by airflow in your case, particularly if there are any obstructions (e.g. powersupply) near the socket. i have a similar setup
to yours in an antec ks282 case (no obstructions) and found that setting the alpha to "suck" was about 4 degrees C cooler than...
mikewarrior2, you sure 3dfxcool uses the old alpha clips? i'm using an alpha from them with no problems on a kt7. also they assured me in email that they use the new socket-a clips. (altho i bought from them more than a month ago; i notice they have a new supplier for their alphas)
you'll want a case with some room tho, b/c this is a BIG heatsink. preferably, you want the powersupply in the case to be completely ABOVE the motherboard, not beside it as it will obstruct airflow.
the ks282 really is a great basic case for the price. only problem i had was that the upper right-most stand-off hole was just a hair (maybe 1-2 mm) off of lining up with corresponding screw hole on the abit kt-7 mobo (i just hit the standoff with a hammer until it lined up). Two different...
32DDR. BTW, it is working under win95B, as some were wondering. (altho only with the 3056 drivers: the included drivers resulted in a windows protection error) Haven't put it to the paces yet tho.
