Is it possible to format a HD larger than 127 GB on XP without SP1? If not, can I make 2 partitions of 125 each (its 250 gig), and how? The service packs really bog down my computer. Thanks for any help!

I recently installed some memory on my Dad's laptop, but in system properties it still displays the original 256 MB of ram. I was quite sure that you just stick it in there and you're set, so I guess the only options are that it's not in correctly or it's broken. Is that right?
