Hey Edzard--
Thanks for the reply. The local computer shop didn't have an antec true-power and I didn't want to wait for the internet order, so I took a gamble and got an allied 500 watt that was on sale. It worked. I haven't had a reboot since even with the newer BIOS in dual channel mode...
thanks for the reply!
So I emailed biostar and they got right back to me. They said to upgrade my power supply. So I'll get a antec true power II 480 watt or something of that caliber.
I just dont get how going from 1024 in single channel mode to 1024 megs of ram in dual-channel mode is...
Sorry this is a bit of a long detailed description but here goes from the top:
I've really had bad problems with Biostar's BIOS support. My computer is randomly powering off. I'll be working one minute and then all of a sudden it just turns-off. It doesn't shutdown. In XP I turned off...
Don't bother with extended warranties. They never are worth the price...with most electronics, if something isn't broken when you get it, it probably won't break for quite some time. (Hard drives being the notable exception...always back up your data but don't bother with extended warranties...
Update2: I took out my ECS RS480-M motherboard and returned it and switched it with the Biostar TForce 6100-939. I also wiped all the AMD standard thermal goop off the processor and fan and switched it with Arctic Silver 5. Not only does my computer no longer reboot during games (so it wasn't...
Genesis-- First did unhooking that stuff make any difference?
Before blaming the PSU, test your RAM using memtest86+. You can download it as an ISO or use the "ultimate boot cd" (which includes memtest86, memtest86+ as well as some other processor and memory tests) Make sure none of those are...
Making your own boot cd can be tricky. Luckily these people already went through the trouble...

it's an ISO but it will boot up CD drivers so just copy your flash files onto another CD and run it off there...
Update: So I uninstalled the most recent 5.9 catalyst drivers and southbridge drivers. Then I reinstalled the drivers from the Motherboard CD. So now I'm running with the catalyst 4.12 drivers and the southbridge driver one back from the current. But it still reboots same as always. Good...
The load is about 52C. I'm using the retail fan. It's kinda loud and sucks. I guess I'm going to have to get a new fan...That's a good point about the ATI drivers. I'll definitely uninstall and try the older ones from my motherboard CD.
Here's a weird question. During the memtest86+ test, I...
MS logic: "Hmmm this guy just installed the entire operating system to this newly formatted larger capacity faster hard-drive...I'd better make the old one C:\".
Yeah installing XP/2000/etc is annoying if you forget to disconnect all the other drives. I didn't once and my beautiful new high...
WOOOOAAAAHHHHH it has a virus? If you're having trouble removing it, find a very good friend w/ antivirus (or another one of your PCs) and stick the harddrive from the infected computer on it. Don't worry...just make sure it's the slave drive so your infected OS won't load. Then have the guy run...
Thanks for the reply!
So I ran memtest and memtest+ and everything was fine after 2-1/2 hours. However, since the radeon x200 uses at least 32MB of that memory (since it's on a shared system) I can't test that. However, at least 992MB are fine.
The power supply is an Allied al-c300ATX...
I'm having the same problem and wondering the same thing. My PSU is 300W, what's yours? Also be sure to uncheck the box in Control Panel|System|Advanced|Startup and Recovery Settings|Automatically restart
If it's checked you won't know if you are getting a blue screen of death (BSOD) or your...
Blagh--
The biggest question is how much you want to spend. The first thing you will always have to do is match a motherboard and a processor. Everything else is secondary to the motherboard and processor.
Intel uses Intel specific motherboards
AMD uses AMD specific motherboards...
Hi--
I recently built a computer and it randomly is restarting if I play a game or something with opengl or directx, here are the specs:
-AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (venice) in the retail box w/ retail fan
-ECS RS480-M with lastest bios revision (1.0g). It has an onboard ATI Radeon XPRESS 200...
