Hi,
I'm having a problem with a computer I was building with some spare parts sitting around:
Tyan S1598C2 motherboard
AMD K6-III/450
128MB PC100 SDRAM
ATA66 13GB HD
Floppy Drive
different video cards
The problem is that when I turn the computer on, the cpu fan starts going, but I don't get...
pretty cool. I got the card from buy.com with some $30 off coupon. Easy installation, works great with win2k. Now I have to figure out how to do a decent video capture without eating up so much hard drive space. I was able to make a 115MB file of 640x480 video from a video tape.
Thanks...
Yeah, I'm running Win2k, and thinking about getting AIW Radeon. ATI's web site shows specs for the card, and shows support for Win2k.
But I've read elsewhere, that in general, win2k isn't good for video editing software available.

Hi,
I have an Asus P2B-DS motherboard, with (I think) a 1x/2x AGP slot, and I want to get the ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 32MB video card for it -- specs for this card state AGP 2x/4x. Will this device work properly coupled with my Asus motherboard? Does the slot accept 1x or 2x devices, and is...
Excellent. I'll try these suggestions. Actually, this morning before coming to work, I tried to unscrew the new fan from the heatsink, but it seems to be bolted in -- I couldn't see the "head" of the screw, and neither phillips or regular screwdrivers worked.
Thanks again.

Hi,
The fan on my AMD K6-III/450 is excessively loud, so I purchased a new heatsink and fan. I've taken the processor off the motherboard, but how do I remove the old heat sink / fan from the processor? It seems to be stuck on their pretty good, and I don't want to damage the chip.
Would it...
the deal is still on .... I just backed up one level on the link, and it still works. The site says it's good til 12/15

Thanks for the info. I think I'll buy a mobo for the PII/350 I have sitting around, with plans to upgrade at some future point.
I've read about all the problems people have with the AMD chips and affixing heat sinks on them -- it seems like such a hassle.
About 6 months ago, I bumped into a great Asus support web site, which may have been Asus-affiliated, maybe German. I've since lost the URL.
Anybody know of a non-"asus.com" web site that has great reviews and support?
Thanks,

Hi,
I have a Asus P2B-DS with dual PIII/600 slot1 CPUs. What's the highest copppermine processor I can upgrade to, using the S370-DL slotket? Which FCPGA chips can I get -- 100mhz or 133mhz FSB?
I searched all over ASUS's site, and couldn't find a straight answer.
Thanks,
Mentallo
I can't remember for sure ... I've used axiontech.com, tcwo.com and techstore.com most recently. If you go to resellerratings.com, you can look at what people think of virtually any vendor out there.
Also, check bizrate.com for possible special deals in using one of their approved vendors...
I have a K6-III/450 that I don't want any more ... email me if you're interested. It has a fan and heat sink -- works fine, just a little noisy -- probably something to do with the fan.
