Well, the parts are in and the computer is up and running.
My only major concern going in was whether the HAF X was going to be too loud or present cabling issues with my XFX 650 watt power supply. I'm happy to report that while the HAF X is probably overkill in terms of size and air flow, it...
HAF X was a late decision. Obviously plenty of cooling. From the reviews, seems like its not too noisy but I've not heard one in person. From experience though, bigger fans seem subjectively less noisy (or the noise doesn't bother me as much). We'll see.
XFX cable length was a concern...
A few changes but the order is in:
Asus GTX 670 (didn't get to Newegg quick enough to get the Top version)
Cooler Master HAF X case- reread the Corsair 550D review here and decided it might be a little flimsy-also combo special for the HAF and memory plus $20 rebate
ASUS P8Z77-V LK Z77...
Thanks all. I appreciate the input. Definitely going to power down on the power supply and rethink cpu/mb combo-probably either 2500k or 3570k, leaning back towards Ivy.
CPU cooler needs to be tweaked as well, reading up on the
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ which seems like a reasonably quiet...
I'm coming from a Core 2 duo 6600 overclocked to 3.33 for the last 5+ years. The machine has become a little unstable and rather than monkey with it, it's time to upgrade. On the fence between Sandy and Ivy. I like Sandy because: 1) been around for a while, more mature; 2) sounds like easier...
I went back and picked up the last x1900xtx. I'm going to try my hand at ebay to sell it off (there was an auction there that ended at 320 last night for the same card). They must have also either shipped out or sold off the 1900 AIWs. There were probably 15-20 last night and none this...
I'm not 100% sure what they have. Only 1900 AIWs are out in a case (other than lower end cards which they still have quite a few of). I'm not sure what's tucked away in the 'laptop room' other than one guy did menion that the fastest Nvidia cards they had were gone.
As a starting point...
Syracuse is shutting down for good. I was there not a half hour ago. They still had plenty of the 1900 AIW but I didn't ask about the 1900xtx's to see if they're still in stock. Video cards still listed at 50% off.
When they first started shutting down they kept an empty x1900xtx box out...
The AIW was supposedly 125 according to the guy I talked with but it shows as 200 regular price at the website so it probably should have been 100.

I went to pick up a x1900 all-in-wonder at 50% off at the Syracuse COMPUSA and just happened to ask if they had anything faster left. Much to my surprise, tucked away in a locked room with the laptops were some x1900xtx's for 200 bucks. There were no displays and nothing on the floor that...
I just bought the Antec p180. It replaced my old Xaser III case. Personally, I'm much happier with the Antec. I'm overclocking about 500 mhz and my bios/utilities are still reporting cpu temps in the high 30s (I've also got the San Diego 3700).
Things that made me go with the Antec:
1)...
Thanks for the replies. I found a site www.bleedingedge.com that has OCZ support forums. Come to find out, with the Lanparty Ultra, my OCZ Platinum 3200 will not run at the default settings (nor will virtually any other OCZ ram). A lot of manual tweaking (I've never seen so many custimizable...
Dear Everyone,
I've built a new system for the first time in a while and am having trouble. My components are:
1. DFI Lanparty Ultra;
2. ATI 800xl;
3. Two 37 gig raptors in Raid 0;
4. one WD Cavier 80 gig;
5. Audigy II;
6. DVD drive;
7. CD Burner;
8. floppy;
9. Two...
I received one of these cds with my dell laptop. Is this just a regular windows XP professional cd that could be installed on any old computer or is there something uniquely dell about it?
Matt
