Try to mute the different sound sources - CD-Audio, Line IN etc. one by one to see if any ONE of them produces the hum.
Nightowl: I dont think the crackling sound problem in your old computer had anything to do with interference. It was because you ran out of PCI bus brandwith - all your PCI...
When you put the boot drive on the standart IDE controller, is your 2nd drive still on the HTP370? If thats the case try removing all drives from the HTP370 and boot win2k.
Got the same problem with my HTP366 PCI controller card. When my IBM 45 GXP75 is connected to the HTP controller win2k failes to load. Win98 is fines though.
The "inaccessable boot device" can be fixed. Copy the HTP370 win2k driver to a floppy. When the w2k installation restarts the...
Hmm, I can't connect to scour either - and I know it's not banned in our firewall...
Has anyone been able to connect to scour recently?
Edit: Double post.
It might be related to your lan cards drivers. I while back I was hosting a lan party and we had HUGE problems with filecopying and multiplayer instability. After troubleshooting we narrowed it down to 3 PC's being unable to connect and/or being disconnected at odd times from the multiplayer...
To delete the swap file go to dos mode - either by pressing F8 just before windows starts to load and then select "command prompt only", or by choosing "shotdown" > "Restart in MS-DOS mode" from the start menu.
At the dosprompt type "del c:\win386.swp"...

Also try to connect the GXP on the onboard UDMA/33 controller - I got a performance increase of about 35% using the onboard controller on my mobo rather than the ABIT Hot Rod 66. - That makes one wonder why one ever wasted money on that UDMA/66 card :|
Yeah, the "incorrect DOS version" is displayed because command.com is af a different version than the exe files you were using. A complete win98 boot disk is probably the only solution that will work.
Shudder, If you send me a list of wich DOS files you need (e.g. Emm386.exe) I'll put...
Another ting you could try is setting the FSB to 66Mz to see if it stabilises the system - I know it's not a viable longterm solution as it will decrease performance, and the CPU speed will be limited to 5*66(333).
But it did fix the stability problem on one of my friends K6-2 system.
