    Poll: Will SATA kill SCSI?

SATA and SCSI are marketed to different groups, home use vs. enterprise use. SCSI won't go way. Fibre Channel on the other hand doesn't seem to be gaining any ground on SCSI, (In non-SAN setups)

    SATA Optical Drives

I dislike the cables for pata, but its alot more compatible, and mechBgon is right about the bridging to SATA. Mostly I just wan't to get rid of all old stuff, my next board will hopefully not have serial and parallel (like some abits) and will have pci-e instead of agp. Maybe they'll get rid of...

    SATA Optical Drives

Do you guys know of any alternative to this, either out now or coming soon? If you don't want to click the link its a MSI SATA combo drive w/ 16x DVD and 52x/24x/52x CD-RW. I need to rid my system of icky IDE. The problem with this drive is: Supports only Intel 875P / 865PE / 865G / 865GV /...

    6800 Ultra at Newegg

Don't pay 110 extra when you can wait two weeks. Man newegg has really started price gouging with brand new stuff. I wouldn't be suprised if its retailers/distributors as much as nvidia who are responsible for the trickle of 6800s (and XTs) so they can jack up the price. EDIT: woops.. cross...

Clearing Internet History & Porn traces

Whats wrong w/ chicks. I would tell your gf she can look at pr0n if you can too, but they lie and say they don't like porn, whatever. The same thing with open door urination, I say I don't stop you from peeing with the door open stop complaining when I do it. P.S. Is this general hardware...

Just received my X800 XT from Zipzoomfly!!!!

hmm... looks the same to me. These IQ samples reviewers post always boggle my mind, how can they tell the difference  , maybe I'm just blind. Anyway, for that speed increase I'd definately accept a 5-10% drop in IQ.

    Reducing game map loading time

Out of curiosity, what mobo do you have? I only know of the intel server or serverworks chipsets that support PCI-X and none that also have agp. I have also heard of boards w/ agp and on-board ultra320 scsi, but they are for xeons and have only fsb "533". EDIT: gigabyte has them, nevermind...

if u had $10000. what would u put in ur computer

Check here for manufacturers and go to their webpages for products. The drives can be slow using flash mem like usb thumb drives or fast using sdram. If the drive is like the cenatek rocket drive (pci card) you can't boot from it and if you want 8-10GB so you can install windows and a game it'll...

Argh!!! Where are the X800XTs and the 939 Boards?!

All the 939 chips are priced too high. $700 is the cheapest 3800+, FX53 is like $820, man why not release some resonably priced chips w/ your new socket if you want people to migrate amd. I can understand if the FX53 is uber-expensive (like the Extremely Expensive P4), but come on what about...

Have you ever *dropped* your laptop?

I dropped an inspiron 8500 about 3.5ft of a counter onto a wood floor and it left a mark plus the built-in nic won't make a working connection unless i hold the ethernet cable or tape it tightly to the machine (pulled down so the pins make proper contact to the jack). Grr.. Now i just use a...

    Reducing game map loading time

I saw the AT article on raptor vs. every one else and it seemed that loading time wasn't that improved by switching HDs. My question is what if I went extreme and got a Ultra320 SCSI RAID card on PCI-X and 2x Solid State drives in RAID 0 (after I win the lottery) and installed far cry on it...
