Don't be afraid to just goob the thermal grease on, obvioulsy not too thick but put a nice thin layer over the entire contact surface area. If you are using Thermal grease I have found that you can put the thermal grease on, mash the heatsink into the CPU (using the lever and moutning bracket)...
