OK, I got it to work by enabling ACPI. Stupid disingenuous error message -- if it had meant ACPI it should have said ACPI, not APIC!!! Grrr!

Yep, I've set it both to terminate (as it's the only device on the chain) and to provide term power. I can't really diagnose this, because I don't have an external terminator nor another UW device to plug into the SCSI bus that it's on.
