You would be seeing some warning signs if you were that close to overloading your psu. The psu would get really hot and the system would probably reboot when under heavy load(such as benchmarking or playing games like halo).

Cover the psu fan with your hand while the system is running for a few seconds. If it sounds better with the fan covered than replace that fan. I did this and it made a notable differance. My next trick is going to be adding a second fan and running them both at half speed to further reduce noise.
