Yeah they do this so it is an eazy comparison of rates. Otherwise they could just post their APR. With some companies that compound daily a 2.8 percent is going to make more then someone who compounds monthly, so technically they would both get the same interest, but not really. THe daily one...

This is true, Actually APY stands for Annual Percentage Yield, which means that the actual APR(annual percentage rate) is less, around 2.8 ish, but you make 3 percent due to the monthly compounding.
