Got an iMac as a gift

You might be able to get 2x 512MB modules for $25.00 or so. PC133 is okay, but you'll need Low Density (chips on both sides) and most likely Low-Profile modules. I got a great price (my offer) and excellent, fast service from geek_noize on eBay. If you can't use the G3 iMac, maybe you have a...

Snow Leopard retail install on a good mATX MB ?

If I was choosing a "Beater" I'd go for the ES2H, but I guess it depends on what you need. I don't need PCI Express 2.0 x16. Too bad there is no PCIe x1, but I don't really need that either. What I DO need is for my board to be rid of legacy connectors I'll never use. Plus, I'd need the price...

    Firefox Under OS X

Save a WHOLE site locally to your hard disk? Not since IE for Mac & probably never again. I've used the Screengrab! extension with Firefox 3.0.x and it works AWESOME! It is THE reason I switched to Firefox from Safari. Only saves one page at a time, but the copies are PERFECT! Will not save...

My mom's Powerbook G4 is super slow

"Their" should read: THERE :o Which is FREEware called: AppleJack Not a GUI app, nor feature rich as Cocktail. Only cleans Cache/Temp Files & Repairs Permissions, but that is usually all you need for regular maintenance. Cocktail is easy & I felt it worth $ (used to cost less). Try free...

My mom's Powerbook G4 is super slow

Have enough RAM? Running out of disk space? Low RAM & disk space would slow VM down to a crawl. Ever do any kind of disk/system maintenance? I regularly use this shareware program: Cocktail It cost $ but has a free trial version that may help you now. Their is another way (free) also, but...

Hackintosh 10.5.5 Retail Rig - Starting at $305

@mosslack: Another shout out for the Power Mac G4 DA! Still wish I'd kept mine. Maxed out with 1.5GB of RAM, plus a FirmTek SeriTek/1S2 PCI card for 320GB SATA drive. Even with stock 533MHz processor it was a NICE machine! Just had to go and get a G5 :D Russell

Is it really that difficult/impossible to change your home directory's short name?!?

Comment from VersionTracker page regarding ChangeShortName: NOTE: If you are on 10.5 aka Leopard you shouldn't use this! Similar functionality is built into the Users Pref Pane (right click on your user to edit the short name, etc). Enjoy! Russell

Is it really that difficult/impossible to change your home directory's short name?!?

I've used the ChangeShortName program before and it worked perfectly! ChangeShortName 1.3 @ VersionTracker Backup important data before using, which is a good idea anyway. Russell

Hackintosh 10.5.5 Retail Rig - Starting at $305

Well now the ASUS P5N7A-VM that Eastwind got working is looking attractive (to me). Quoth he: "A talented person on ISM has posted HDA kexts so now I get 5.1 out of SPDIF!" [and] "the onboard video works with NVkush." Whether the video is DVI was not stated. Lowest price right now, with FREE...

Hackintosh 10.5.5 Retail Rig - Starting at $305

Any hope for a better mATX option? The Gigabyte G31M-ES2L has too many legacy ports, which are useless for Hackintosh® projects, plus a lot of non-solid caps. Zaap even calls it a "Beater"! I read about Eastwind's success with the Asus P5N7A-VM, but some of us prefer Gigabyte boards. Perhaps...
