I did this to a hard drive before (Pulled the ps plug out of it while on :)) and it died from that minute on. From the sound's of it, it seem's you have a bad power supply unit.

If I'm not mistaken, the CL MX uses DDR based memory. But because of it's 64 bit data bus path's, the overall effect is roughly the same speed as SDR give or take 5% of performance. Marketing ploy to make it look faster than it is ;)

A small pcmcia adapter would be similar to pci wouldnt it? I'm not sure of the speed of pcmcia, but I know pcmcia devices get HOT so I dunno. Just food for thought.
